I've heard some doozies for call INS to work. 1. Dog having puppies 2. I'm having a miscarriage when I could hear a party in the background 3. I'm tired 4. I worked yesterday 5. Out of gas 6. I'm going out of town

just to name a few

what excuses have you heard for someone to use to not come to work

Here is a new one. As far as we know this one had never been used at our facility before. The front page in our local newspaper had a story about a man's truck that had been stollen. The thiefs were caught when they put diesel in the tank. The truck was gas not diesel. The cops spotted the truck at the service station. They were still trying to get it started.

Okay march forward two weeks. We started getting call-ins from nurses who had accidentially put diesel in there vehicle. Yeah one person may do this but we had six call-ins over 4 weeks. Yeah right! I'm just sayin!

Also they were back at work the next day. It took two days of work to clean out the stollen truck's tank, fuel lines, injectors, etc...

If you are planning to use this excuse, please take several days off or ask for a ride the next day just to make it believable!

1.When people call in saying " I am sick" and they cough afterwards ( it just kills me)

2. I am sick and I can't make it tomorrow or wednesday to work, but I will be there Thursday....it's like they can tell the future lol

""I had a death in the family"...for the third time this year.

Not too far-fetched. My sister in law just lost her parents within 44 days of each other and a few months ago lost an aunt.My facility used to tell us to bring in the mass or funeral card (how tacky)

As for pets-If my dog or cat was in the middle of having a litter I would probably call in sick.I have left work due to an emergency with a pet.

I would love to call out with "anal glaucoma" That's when you just can't see your behind going to work.However-I believe in Karma and I have found that if I call in sick and really am not then I soon get that way....

I have an old friend that called in to her work using the excuse that her dog had diarrhea....

And she was in the Army and Air Force, so she definitely should know better! :nono:

I don't have a good "worst" call in excuse; but, when I was a teenager working at a restaurant I got sick (like fever, chills, body aches, want to crawl in bed and die) at work and tried to call some one in so I could go home. The only person not already working that could possibly cover me, would not come in...her excuse? "I am laying in bed with my boyfriend and I don't want to get up" It was noon and I felt like doggie doo doo and I had covered for her before so she could go to parties and such...lets just say I never covered for her again....

These are some that I have heard:

3. I have to wait for the air condinting man to come and fix it.

Reigen

Living in Texas, I can completely see this as an actual excuse. They take FOREVER and the temp could climb way past 90 in the house!

Now this wasn't a call in, but a refusal of a request to take an extra shift on my day off...I had just gotten a fresh spray tan and couldn't wash my hands for 24hrs...I was told by the Nsg secretary that was the most unique excuse she's ever heard......

As a nursing instructor I have heard the following for why students can't come to clinic:

It is raining and the windshield wipers make me nausious

I got mud splashed on my white pants and have to go home to change - takes all shift??

Reasons for being late:

I got stuck behind a train

I overslept - for 2nd shift???

I got a flat tire - multiple times in the same week :uhoh3:

Whatever...

One of our nurses reported off because of insomnia!!! On a Sunday 7am to 7pm shift no less. Maybe if she went home to sleep on Saturday night....I'm just sayin'

Years ago, I had entered in a horse show that was scheduled for my weekend off. Of course it RAINED the entire week before, and the event was rescheduled for my weekend to work. So I called in sick. Made sure I applied lavish amounts of sunscreen to that I wouldn't show up to work on Monday sunburned. Everything was going great until one of the participants was severely injured, and had to be flown out. You guessed it-it was the helicopter of the hospital's ER where I worked at that landed!!!! As I handed off care, I quickly swore them to secrecy and word never did get out. But the crew winked at me whenever they saw me!

A guy called in to my husband's work (non-hospital) that he couldn't come in because there was a possum in the house.

Have you ever experienced Insomnia? I have and it sucks. I had gotten only about 16 hours of sleep after 96 hours and I still had two shifts to go last week. In my book, Insomnia is a real excuse.
