as inspired by another thread, here's a motivational question! i guess this is more of a question for those of us who haven't had a real career before nursing....
what will you do with your first "real" paycheck?
i'm going straight to the salon. new cut, highlights, facial, mani, pedi...the works!
then, straight to the mall with my plastic because for the first time in my life it won't be just for "emergencies" anymore!
i can't wait!
This is a great thread :). I wish all of you speedy accomplishment of your dreams!
I was just remembering my first "real" (read: non-babysitting money) paycheck at 16 when I started working at the nursing home. I bought contact lenses. I had wanted them FOREVER (started wearing glasses at age 6.) What a feeling of power to earn something through your labors.
Ummm first of all I'd give my tithes to the church which I haven't been able to do with no income........Then I'd pay ALL my bills..ON TIME...so the bill collectors will take me off their speed dial...lol And this can't all be done in one paycheck, but my next project would be to buy a decent car, one that will actually get me from Point A to Point B on a REGULAR BASIS...lol....oh yea and I'd actually go out to dinner....mexican I think...wow a girl can dream...lol

I agree, tithes first.. then,hmm..
i'll give portion to my mom.
i'll let my husband experience the dream of his life,
a vacation grande in an island, with lots of freebies,
delicious food and with service deluxe!
i'll also treat my sisters in spa, body massage, hair color,
shopping... :)
me?! oh, i like to buy a PDA. the best one!
(it's such a great feeling to have a dream..
and soon it will become a reality!):)
I'm sure my husband and I will blow my first couple of checks on fun stuff. We will buy our son clothes, games, and take him to Six Flags. I will get my hair cut and colored, get my nails done, buy new clothes, shoes, jewlery(fake of coures). Who knows what my husband will want. After the fun is over all my checks will go to paying off bills and fixing up our old house.
First of all I am going to pay my tithes and offerings because i know that God made all of this possible. Next I am going to spend some on my daughters because they traveled this long road with me. Finally I'm going to visit the beauty shop and have the works done because believe me I need it. I tell you one thing I won't be paying any bills out of it.

Don't come in here bursting bubbles:chuckle Party pooper. I think most of these people are intelligent enough to know they won't be doing all of these things with their first checks. I personally have never had a "real career" before, so I am going to be able to afford alot of things I have never been able to buy. Reality of it is....nursing pays more than $500 every 2 weeks...so um, yeah, even with taxes taken out, it's still more than some of us have ever seen. Every single thing these soon to be nurses wish to do once they start working in their new profession is attainable. Someone always has to come in and put a damper on a post where ppl are just shooting the breeze and having fun. Don't do that:nono:
What's funny is that reality is going to hit when Mr. IRS, Ms. State, Mr. FICA and all those other guys take out their portion, you will have to postpone on the vacation, shopping spree, etc. from just the 1st paycheck!Take it from experience!
Yeppers!
I can totally agree with THAT one!
Spend it on what you want! I am! I am already a LPN who makes fairly decent money, so I KNOW it feels good! And although MsIRS and MR whoever get their portion, I still have enough left over to finally NOT have to struggle sometimes! And NOT have to rob Peter to pay Paul...sometimes!
Let us dream.... :)
