  1. Anyone have this job? What's a typical work day like for you? Any info is greatly appreciated! Thanks!
  2. Hello, I know this is an old post and thank you for everyone who replied. I have applied for multiple listings at multiple hospitals over the past year....to St. Francis, Hartford (as RN and as aide), Hartford's Windham, Manchester, UCONN, Middlesex I've had 2 interviews with UCONN, 1 with St. Francis, a phone screening with Middlesex, and one interview (with a two-hour long "shadow", suggested by manager during the interview) with Manchester. I've also tried insurance companies: Travelers, Metlife, and Aetna. I don't have B.O. I'm polite. I dressed for success and my resume and cover letter are well-written. I was prepared for my interviews. I'm so frustrated at this point that all I can do is cry. We moved here from another state for my husband's job and have now just about depleted all of our savings and have three children. Going back for my BSN is financially impossible at this time. Again, thanks for any advice and I'm sorry to vent, but I'm at the end of my rope
  3. I have 9 years of ICU experience at a Major Level 1 Trauma Center in a different state. I have an ADN. I can't even get an interview!? What the heck is going on!? I've been applying for 3 months. I need suggestions. I live slightly east of Hartford.
  4. Sorry if the title had some kind of shock value...but we're all professionals here... I'm trying to find some nurses' experiences with pumping at work. I work in an ICU and I work 12 hour shifts. How did you find time to pump? Were you successful or am I crazy to think that I'll be able to find time to pump multiple times in 12 hours? I have a while to think about this, but I'm just curious about how anyone else managed?
  5. the interviewer only asked 3 questions... mostly about experience. since i am a new grad, i have no experience. the position is an internship, though, so i guess i was under the assumption that since it's a learning experience that experience wasn't necessary....especially for a new grad. i'm just so upset. this is literally the only job that i want. how long does it usually take for a job offer after an interview? maybe there is still hope....?
  6. has anyone here accepted a job that wasn't their preference? i just interviewed for the job i REEEEEEALLY wanted this past week. i don't think the interview went well at all. now, i'm not really sure what to do with myself. there is no other position similar to this one in the area and if i don't get this job, i think that my career path with be entirely different than what i reeeeally wanted to do. so, if you did take a job that wasn't your #1 choice, how did it work out for you?
  7. thanks for the reply, anise :) do you think that the same was true for the other internships? also, how many interviews are there? is it just the one and is it a long interview? are there other GN's that go through the internship with you? sorry for all of the questions and i really appreciate the info!
  8. my advice: 1. make like-minded friends who you can count on for support. 2. organization, you'll find your own system once you begin 3. take it one day at a time. don't freak out. we had people throughout school that threw fits all of the time and it doesn't help anyone by throwing fits. 4. study :studyowl:
  9. [MOUSE]hi all, wondering if there is anyone out there that has ever done the lvh grad nurse internships. what can i expect? my interview is next friday. thanks [/MOUSE]
  10. We learn the patho associated with the disease processes.
  11. Hi, I am a student and I am interested in aromatherapy and nursing. I am having a tough time finding articles or websites that describe what a nurse aromatherapist does or how to integrate aromatherapy in the nursing practice. any help would be greatly appreciated! thanks :)
  12. I keep telling myself that if i can make it through ____________ (example: today, clinical, this week, this exam), I will be fine. I am not a crafty person, but I am just heading over to the craft store to find something that will take my mind off of everything routine (mostly school) for a few hours. how did you guys put that countdown thing in your posts? I want one!!!! Also, I always feel less anxious at clinical if I am over-prepared. Like, I still carry around cheat sheets with lab values, insulin peaks and troughs, and abbreviations on them in case I have a temporary lapse of memory. I have probably only referred to them once in the past 2 years, but they make me FEEL better...which is what counts! On days that I knew I would be REALLY busy, I actually wrote down a schedule for the day the night before. I never used them, but they made me feel better going into the day. Maybe this stuff could help you feel less nervous! hope i've helped and I really feel your pain :) good luck :)
  13. You have no idea how much i needed to read this post right now! i literally collapsed at clinical this past week and after almost every test known to man, the emergency docs and my pcp are puzzled as to what is wrong with me because i am still not "right" 5 days later... seems it is probably attributed to stress!!!!! nothing like this has ever happened before in my life. soooo scary.... this gets added onto my stomach ulcer that has appeared since nursing school started and also my 25 lb weight gain! now i feel better because i felt it hard to accept stress as the cause of all of this. isn't this horrible?! i hate feeling so out of control... :( :(
  14. thanks talaxandra :) i did see the previous thread...that's how i originally thought to research this topic.
  15. I'm writing a paper about the issue in nursing of "too posh to wash". that is, nurses who think that basic care should be delegated to CNA's and other staff. I would just like to ask a couple of questions and you, in return, will have the pleasure of being cited in my fabulous paper as a reference! :) I guarantee an A paper, by the way :wink2: so here are the questions: 1. do you delegate your basic care to cna's? 2. what area of nursing are you in and what is a typical nurse/pt ratio? 3. how do you feel about delegating out work? and any other thoughts on the topic.... 4. have things changed since you entered the nursing profession until now and how? I really appreciate anyone's help as I just found this to be a nursing issue that i really want to learn more about. you absolutely do not need to divulge any personal info like your name or exact location, by the way! thanks so much! :)
