as inspired by another thread, here's a motivational question! i guess this is more of a question for those of us who haven't had a real career before nursing....
what will you do with your first "real" paycheck?
i'm going straight to the salon. new cut, highlights, facial, mani, pedi...the works!
then, straight to the mall with my plastic because for the first time in my life it won't be just for "emergencies" anymore!
i can't wait!
First I'm going to pay my tithes and offering ! ( when 10% of your check goes to the God via the church) Because its God that would have gotten me through this hard program. NEXT... I'm would like to go on a shopping spree with me and my niece. I would like to go away on vacation, and do so much more !!!! I want to do everything I could not afford to do while in nursing school, including getting married. This will probably take be a few checks, but at least it'll be in progress.
I am going to buy myself a car that doesn't overheat, HAS heat, doesn't flood when it rains or make strange noises going down silent back country roads, and has all of the buttons that it is supposed to on the dash and none of the lights that it ISNT supposed to have (can you say "check engine light" anyone?). Oh, and I'm going to buy a mega uber emergency kit complete with spare tire, spare doughnut, tire inflation kit, half a dozen cans of fix-a-flat, a battery charger/jump start kit, and a spare cell battery for the glove compartment.
But before that, I'm going to do something really nice for my husband and my children, because they are going through so much and doing without so much so that I can make this dream come true.
My answer changes everytime this question comes up. Thankfully I have ZERO credit card debt. The only debt I will have is school loans and I'm not a big spender so:
Every check I receive during my orientation period with be placed in my savings account, because, well...you never know.
First check I get after I get off orientation will go towards a much needed new wardrobe.
Second check will be split in half and given to my parents who were very good to me financially.

This is an old thread, so it would be interesting to see what the answers are today with our current economy.
We'll be living off my DH's salary during nursing school, so when I get my first real check, it's going to savings for our emergency fund. After that it's going towards student loans- I have this crazy idea that I will pay off my previous degree (and depending where I go to nursing school some or all of my new debt) in a year.
