as inspired by another thread, here's a motivational question! i guess this is more of a question for those of us who haven't had a real career before nursing....
what will you do with your first "real" paycheck?
i'm going straight to the salon. new cut, highlights, facial, mani, pedi...the works!
then, straight to the mall with my plastic because for the first time in my life it won't be just for "emergencies" anymore!
i can't wait!
I went to Wal-Mart today to purchase my very first scrub top for work. *YAY!* It was $7 because it was on clearance, but all of the other scrub tops were about $13 a peice. So... my first check I will be going to http://www.marcusuniforms.com or http://www.uniformadvantage.com to get me about $150 worth of scrubs!
I've been working but on a CNA's wages I can't buy much so with my first nursing check I'll probably buy a new bed. I want a bed I can sprawl out on and no body parts hang off. I want to be able to fit a bunch of pillows on it. I have all the sheets, blankets and pillows bought now I just need the actual bed.
I'm getting a housekeeper! Not an every day one, just someone to come once a week and do the dusting, vaccuuming, bathrooms...etc--all the things that I really don't have time to do right now(nor have the money to pay someone to do it), seeing as how my 10 week summer semester of Med Surg II and OB are pretty much taking up all of my waking hours. Seriously, I can't wait until december and I can get my house is REALLY clean again!
I plan to live in poverty as I am currently so I can get out of debt as soon as possible. It will take my roughly 2 years under my current conditions, but with the added income I'm be free and clear. :)
Except then I might be able to pay bills on time and not have to know the exact amount in the bank and the grace periods for penalties on everything.

That sounds so nice!
I change my mind all of the time but I know for a fact that I am taking my kids shopping and letting them get anything they want within reason. Then I'm taking my family to our favorite restaurant and letting them order anything they want. We're even going to have strawberry crepes for dessert. My family has been tremendously supportive while I have been taking my prereqs. Now that I am starting nursing school, my children are really showing their understanding regarding our situation right now. They rarely ask for anything because they know that we have to put as much money away as possible to pay for my books and other supplies. They also know that mommy won't be working for the first semester so money will be extra tight. All they talk about is how different things will be when I am finished school. We'll be able to spend time together again and we may even be able to take a vacation at some point.

Right now I have my family on a STRICT budget! I am trying to put back ALL of the money I am making this summer (working for the state) :innerconf But by the time I quit August 11 :Melody: :balloons: I will have enough money to get us through 1st AND 2nd semester and I won't have to worry about working. It is really hard right now, but I will so appreciate it when I have too much work to do for school that I can't fathom having even a parttime job.
Anyway...back to the topic at hand. We are going to continue to live this way after I graduate so that we can pay the the 30-40K in student loans off and put up extra money to buy a nice new house!!!!! I can't hardly wait! Right now I get excited every week when I transfer over my savings money. I just love to watch that account grow. It seems that all the sacrafices are worth it.

I already work, but with my first nursong paycheck after the lean period I know will follow I will:
1. Buy food.
2. Buy a nice pair of shoes.
3. Pay all the bills at once.
4. Buy a full tank of gas.
That is of course after I photocopy the check and pay my tithe on the money.
