Yes, lots of places around the country do and have for a while.  I was just wondering if you can't have a drink in California and what made them the state that was locked down the most.

The mask mandate went into effect Dec. 13, after I left. It's only indoors.  The real difference is that it's 80 % vaccinated.  When I there, everyone wore  a mask in Santa Barbara despite  mandate but when I drove to Orange Country, I was asked by my host not to wear one anywhere.  I don't know I that Omicron is making a difference.  But outdoor bars and restaurants make it possible to do it all outdoors.   The high today here was 16 degrees.   Cocktails at home?  No problem!

I've never found being tired or lacking sleep to cause someone to be short of breath while talking.

OK, but I wonder why it's just on a few left wing sites and not national news that the governor of Florida was "very ill" and short of breath?  Why would he go into a press conference so sick?  It's no shame to be sick.  Our mayor was sworn in from home as he has covid.  It's not a big deal in this day and age to be sick.  Shortness of breath is a serious illness, why didn't someone stop him and call 911?

It could be that he's feeling much better than before, this may explain why he was out of public view from the middle of December until this week.

As for how people who've downplayed the seriousness of Covid are able to maintain such impressive denial of their symptoms, that's something I've found perplexing for the last two years.

Generally it seems to be a philosophical question similar to "if a tree falls in the woods and there's nobody there to hear it, did it make a sound".  With the Covid version being, if "Covid causes certain symptoms, and I deny I have those symptoms, then I don't have Covid and it's still a made up illness".  Of course a tree still makes a sound if there's nobody there to hear it, and Covid still exists no matter how hard you try to ignore the symptoms.

We've had a number of patients leave AMA, huffing and puffing out the door, when told they've been admitted for Covid, the rationale being that if what's wrong with them is supposedly Covid then they aren't sick at all since Covid doesn't actually exist, or it's a scam, etc.  A number of them eventually died at home, which I give them credit for their full commitment to their position.  One passed out in the stairwell, why we were discussing what should be done since he had clearly refused any treatment of any kind he suddenly sprung up, looked at us, turned and ran into the wall, then stumbled his way down the stairs and out the door.  This wasn't a thing at least to this extent prior to Covid.

In particular, once you've set your position publicly there seems to be no turning it around.

None of that is relevant to DeSantis.  He's not a Covid denier, is vaccinated,  supports vaccines and therapeutics.

DeSantis won't say if he's received a booster.  He's elevated known antivaxxers and their messages, pushed against masking and vaccine requirements by businesses like the cruise industry and has made silly statements about Dr Fauci.

I would agree that he's done a good job of being somewhat coy about his minimizing of Covid, while at the same time leaving no confusion amongst those who minimalize Covid about which side he's on.

Besides letting someone speak at a his press conference who claimed that the vaccines mess with your RNA, without correcting him, he put Ladopo in the position of Surgeon General, Ladopo is an anti-vax nut job.

I can agree with this.

DeSantis did a very good job in promoting the vaccine, treatments and testing at the beginning.

However, when it became clear it was going to be a political issue and much of his base was pushing back he has made it a point to ride both sides of the fence by giving the anti-vaxers a voice, and demonstrating poor behavior by being maskless in crowds like at Trump rallies and he's done a poor job at supporting boosters.  On December 29 smack dab in one of our worst surges he appeared at a Christian concert with this chemo receiving wife maskless celebrating Florida being the most free state in the country.

I wouldn't be surprised if he had covid and had to lay low.  But I would be surprised if he didn't make it public.  Then again knowing the ridicule he would receive I could understand him wanting to keep it private.  But with covid positive cases topping one million on Monday and dozens of politicians of both parties around the country getting covid, no one is giving them a hard time. I recently read 14 members in congress have covid, but on a national level I'm sure it's dozens.   Like I said our mayor had his swearing in from home because he's covid positive and no one batted an eye.  He's one of tens of thousands in Florida with it.

Recently Florida is getting flack for wanting less people tested.  I agree that if you're asymptomatic without exposure you should not get tested.  But if you're asymptomatic and have someone in your household or office with it, you should get tested.

Maybe we nee to do less testing because testing kits expire.

Economists noted the barrage of mixed messages coming out of recent job market data: The BLS report came two days after private payroll processor ADP reported that the private sector added 807,000 jobs in December, more than double what economists projected, while the Labor Department’s Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey reported on Tuesday that a record 4.5 million Americans quit their jobs in November. Yet new weekly jobless claims released Thursday found a surprising increase of 7,000, although at 207,000, the figure remains below historic norms.

The sluggish labor force participation rate adds to the confusion, said Sam Stovall, chief investment strategist at CFRA Research. “You’ve got many people quitting their jobs looking for better opportunities but then you also have baby boomers saying, ‘why do I need to worry about getting sick on the job?’” and retiring, he said — cross-currents that make it difficult to decipher real-time labor market health.

Strange times.  Unemployment is below 4% but covid went and ruined everything.

I think the economic impact of covid on small businesses is going to be tough.  I read of a small business woman shutting her shop because her staff was sick an her having to pay them out of pocket an wondering how to make ends meet.  These aren't good times.

Also the strained labor market with people quitting like crazy and boomers retiring.

The " laws"  of economics are being tossed out the window.  But for those of us who have worked long years in the medical industrial complex already know, there never were laws when it came to economics.  The more back surgeons in town, the more unnecessary surgeries - at full cost.  Hospitals are constantly wasting money on unproven technology increasing costs to everyone.  It's unsettling to realize how unsettled our core beliefs are.  It's unsettling how the Republicans have embolded crazy people and how many stupid people latch onto them for guidance.

"During oral arguments on the Biden administration's mandate on private businesses for employees to be either vaccinated or frequently tested, Sotomayor drastically overstated the number of young people who have fallen severely ill from coronavirus.

"We have hospitals that are almost at full capacity with people severely ill on ventilators. We have over 100,000 children, which we've never had before, in serious condition, many on ventilators," she said."

Falls under the "what was she thinking" or where is she getting her information question.  I agree with the sentiment "It's somewhat alarming that a Supreme Court justice doesn't have the right information on this. Wild disinformation."

At the end of the day, it's probably not going to go well for Biden's mandates.

People are having a field day between belittling people for downplaying children's hospitalizations and others fear mongering.

And now of course with the surge they can claim "Biden's fails covid strategy".

Cyber Ninjas shutting down.

The Cyber Ninjas firm that oversaw the problem-plagued review of the 2020 results in Arizona's Maricopa County is shuttering.

Rod Thomson, a representative for the Cyber Ninjas, confirmed to CNN that company is shutting down. Thomson said, "$2 million debt from the Arizona audit and endless legal and character attacks on the company by those who opposed the audit make it untenable moving forward.
