Sorry, I'm just really tired of people being so unforgiving that he in the first weeks of covid that he said he didn't think it was necessary to wear a mask and then changed his recommendation.

Just last month Fauci said "“It makes me very uncomfortable to have to say something, but he is egregiously incorrect in what he says,” Fauci said of Paul."   So no, I'm not saying Fauci is wrong and that Rand is correct.

I'm just saying that the idea that some one was wrong about an idea doesn't necessarily mean he lied.

The "but her emails" was a bad joke.  Because people harped for a few years about it just like they are harping about "but he said we didn't have to wear masks!".  This Summer they were harping on about it, and we're still talking about it.

Anyway, for the holiday's I'm not going to participate in political debates.  I enjoy talking with all you and hope everyone whether they celebrate (I don't) or not have a Merry Christmas.

Merry Christmas Tweety.

Us old folks don't even put up a Christmas tree if our grandkids aren't visiting and the solstice gifts were distributed earlier this week.

Yes.  Solstice reigns at the 45th parallel:)  Only 2 more months until the longer days of March and some sun!  But I must comment to the stupidity of the Fauci accusation.  Since there is no proof that the virus originated in the Wuhan lab, what difference does it make if the NIH gave them any funding? Only kooks like Rand Paul and his ilk are still spreading this conspiracy theory.  Time to let it go and concentrate on the present which is so much harder than throwing the spaghetti on a wall.

Its not just Rand Paul.  Jesse Watters made some interesting remarks about Fauci at a recent Turning Point USA meeting...complete with the inflammatory references to guns. Fox is happy to defend his right to make loosely veiled suggestions of violence relative to the elderly physician/scientist. That's a pattern of behavior for that outlet.

Snopes also debunked the claim, that he called for violence directed to Dr. Fauci, as false.

Good thing that I didn't claim that he openly called for violence. I did, however, listen to his remarks and made note of his choice of words.

I read your claim that Mr. Watters made "loosely veiled suggestions of violence relative to the elderly physician/scientist" to mean that he had in fact incited violence towards Dr. Fauci.

If I misread your post, what exactly, in your opinion, did he claim?

I didn't say anything about Watter's "claims".  I referenced his use of words and language as thinly veiled suggestions of violence.  Did you listen to his remarks? Dr Fauci was receiving threats of violence before this Fox personality made these public remarks.  At best they are irresponsible at worst they are intentionally inflammatory, either way his words are dangerous in a culture with an alarming number of radicalized and angry people in it.

I agree, it was a bad and irresponsible choice of words.

I'll also point out, though, that those words weren't out for the masses to hear until Fauci brought attention to them on CNN.

Yep.  It didn't take long for Trump to get his stupid followers to do stupid things at the WH in Jan. 6.  Language does matter and Watters comments were incendiary.  Only someone who despises Fauci would disagree.  I don't get the hatred that would motivate someone to use such radical language towards a physician who just wants a life that doesn't involve having to be surrounded by security...which we all have to PAY for.  Every time language that is used to deliberately trigger the aholes -in- waiting is another slip into the 3rd world.  Think Dutarte.  We are slowly merging into league with his mindset.

They most certainly were words available to the masses to hear regardless of what Fauci said.  The speech was video taped and available for review. Besides, it's not "the masses" who are at risk for incitement to violence by the words of a right wing personality and political pundit, it is the radicalized zealots among his fans who are at risk of acting out his words.

And I don't have any issue either with changing a recommendation as the circumstances change, but that's not what the issue was.

His initial statements were profoundly ignorant in terms of how respiratory viruses spread.  This information was not obscure at the time and he lacked the familiarity with the topic that the vast majority of nurses possess.  He simply wasn't well enough informed to be considered an expert on the issue, or even reasonably competent for that matter.

Then came the indignant comments about how he was not to be questioned, at that point he is no longer a respectable scientist

His explanation of why it was decided it was OK to fund gain-of-function research at the Wuhan lab was more if the same.
