I have been on it for 2 weeks, did quit smoking!! No major "usual"side effects- you know, the nausea and weird dreams. What I do have is extreme hot flashes. Enough that I wake up several times a night due to being hot. The tops of my hands even sweat! As I write this, it is snowing outside and cold, but I am hot and have the window open!! Too odd, usually I am a freeze baby!! Any one ever have hot flashes as a side effect???

It worked for me. I did get the dreams, though. I liked them. :)

It worked for me (I stopped smoking 7/15/08) . I had the dreams, but not the nausea. I have night sweats, anyway, from my birth control, but they got a LOT worse when I was on Chantix. I would wake up in a puddle 2-3 times a night, burning up.

Any chance the hot flashes are an age related coincidence
I loved, loved, loved the stuff, it is the only thing that has come close to working for me.
I was in week 3, having NO side effects, was down to 3-4 cigs a day and would be stopping at the end of the week.
One morning I just lost it, was pizzed off to the point of ranting and tears. At the everyone and everything. Probably a coincidence, I came down with Norwalk that afternoon and couldn't keep anything including meds, down for a few days.
I never went back on it and went right back to 2+ packs a day.
I waited a month and started over with the 0.5mg starter pack. The second 1mg dose in week 2 tore my stomach up. The ONLY way I could tolerate it was by taking 400mg of Zantac with each dose, by the end of week 2 I realized it wasn't doing anything to help with the cravings and stopped.
Waited a month, tried again. Still caused really bad stomach pain and at the end of a month it had not helped with the smoking at all.
I'm on a 6 month break now, going to retry again after Christmas.
One really nice thing - my insurance covers 60% of the cost.
Could be age related, although i am ONLY 42!!

I don't know whether Chantix works because I never tried it. What worked for me was --(I was a serious heavy smoker)--I bought a book by Alan Carr called "The easy way to quit Smoking"--read the book and then I bought an herb called Lobelia--it mimics the effect of nicotine on the dopamine receptors of the brain. The Lobelia was mixed in with other herbs in a stop smoking aid that I bought from an herbal place online--they were in PA--if I find the bottle I will get the name for you or you can google --stop smoking herbal aid.
I was a hard core smoker and these 2 things combined worked--the best thing was there were no side effects--the lobelia calms your brain naturally and the techniques in Carrs book teaches you how to be a non-smoker.
Go natural and good luck--I know how hard it is.

I never tried that but took a couple wellbutrin from an early Rx (only 2-3 days worth) enough to make them taste bad and stopped that way. I recall when i was prescribed it, only 2-3 days and it was like smoking ashes.
I get hot flashes and everything, too. You're not alone. Stupid habit....stioopid! Tobacco made me it's biotch!
I'm still moody, can't sleep worth anything and want one so bad but I need to stick around to torture you all for more decades (I have kids)....I don't want to die yet (until I'm sure there's something after)!:angryfire

Only side effects I had was nausea if I didnt eat something when I took it. As long as something was on my stomach no prob. By week 2 I couldnt stand the smell much less the taste of a cigarette. It's been almost 2 years for me now and happy happy happy!!! I got night sweats but no doubt that was AGE LOL.

After 40 plus years of smoking and only 19 prior attempts to quit. Chantex worked for me. I had no withdrawl. I did notice vivid dreams, so I started taking the second dose of the day at 3 pm instead of at bedtime. I also by week 5 was able to cut back on the dose of Chantex to 1 mg in the morning and only 1/2 tab or .05 mg at 3pm,, I did not stay on Chantex beyond 8 weeks. and still have not smoked since the end of April. Did not notice sweating any more than I usually do when it is hot out. Mild nausea only the first week while I was still smoking once I gave up the cigarettes no more nausea. From 1 pack a day to zip in 1 week...
It is/was a miracle for me.

I'm not a smoker, but
My husband's uncle took it, I think he only took it once or twice. He had nightmares, said he was dreaming he had a gun in his mouth and was abou to pull the trigger when he woke up in a cold sweat. He'd never been so scared in his life and couldn't go back to sleep after that.
MIL listened to some tape and that was how she quit.
