What do you think of chantix?

Published

I have been on it for 2 weeks, did quit smoking!! No major "usual"side effects- you know, the nausea and weird dreams. What I do have is extreme hot flashes. Enough that I wake up several times a night due to being hot. The tops of my hands even sweat! As I write this, it is snowing outside and cold, but I am hot and have the window open!! Too odd, usually I am a freeze baby!! Any one ever have hot flashes as a side effect???

Wow, congratulations everyone! I can't wait to start chantix once I have health insurance.

My dad stopped smoking after over 40 years of smoking 1-2 packs a day with Champix (it's called that here in Sweden). He didn't mention any side effects so I guess if he had any, they weren't that bad. One major reason he hasn't falled off the wagon again (because he has stopped and started again many times over) I believe is that he found love again who does not tolerate smoking at all. He's happy with her and won't jeopardize it.

Congratulations all of you who succeeded! Your health must have improved? My dad doesn't cough as much any more and looks healthier.

It is a great drug to help some people, but I do advise people to be very careful taking it, and be mindful of loved ons taking it. My mom smoked for 20 years, and took the drug. Has never had a history of depression, even after her marriage of 12 years ended. During the 2 weeks she took the med, she became severely depressed and even talked to me about possible suicide attempts. She quit taking the meds, and in a few days was back to normal. Not common, from what I have read, but something to be aware of when taking!

I took it to stop smoking and the only side effect I experienced were the vivid dreams.

My last cigarette was on August 8, 2008 and I haven't had one since then! It worked for me.

Good luck to you, it's a tough thing to accomplish, but attainable!! :D
