What street clothes do YOU wear in nursing school?

What type of clothes/outfits do you wear to theory and lab?

Last semester I was so tired I always wore jeans or sweats with T Shirts and hoodies and a ponytail but some of my classmates looked very nice and kind of business casual. Not fancy or overdone just nice. I think it probably affected the way out professors viewed them and I'm going to try to put some effort in it this semester-who knows it might affect my confidence and teachers/peers perceptions of me.

blue uniform scrubs, but not by choice:drowning:

I wear jeans and shirt to every class. We were told day 1 to be comfortable in class because we are in class from 8:00 am until 4:30pm. I would dress up if I had a presentation or something. My school what they care about are your grades, your assignments how you do in clinicals and the questions you ask in class. There are only 30 of us in our class, so our professors know us pretty well and don't need us dressed up to know what's on the inside.

We were directed to dress professional or business casual. I didn't mind.

We have to wear scrubs to school... hair up .. all the works... they say it puts us in NURSE MODE! (=

What I wear during nursing school is really dependent upon the day of the week. If I'm sitting in class, typically I will wear a T-shirt, a polo shirt, a sweater or sweatshirt, jeans or pants or shorts, and always closed toe shoes. When I am in clinicals, I will always wear the prescribed uniform. During my psych rotation, I will dress business casual, and I'll have my "normal" school uniform as a backup.

In any event, no matter what I wear in class, as long as it follows the rules, my professors don't care what I wear. Generally speaking, my professors all know me as someone who knows the material very well and is willing to jump in and do things when necessary. They do not have the impression that I am someone that sits in the back of the class and goofs off and does not know the material very well.

They know that because I use a computer in class, that I am likely to be sitting wherever there is a power outlet so that my battery does not die on me.

They only as someone who is willing to teach when possible, help out if needed, and learn as much is possible to become the best nurse I can be.

T-shirts, jeans/pants (would wear shorts but those rooms get cold after a couple of hours), and flip flops ( I live in Florida, flip flops are a way of life here). Lab days we have a school polo and khakis, close toed shoes a must.

Most people dress as I do. I've only seen a dress and heels once and she was doing something for the student government after class.

I believe the school you are attending makes the difference. Each individual school has their own requirements. I start nursing school in the Fall.(August 2013) We are supposed to wear our teal scrubs and white shoes everyday. The first few days of schools we are allowed to wear business professional until we get the scrubs.

I go to class straight from work so I'm always in my scrubs. We have people in all sorts of stuff!!

Unless there was a job fair or something going on at school, I never dress business casual. There were a few things that I didn't let myself wear, but I really didn't give myself too many limitation. Just PLEASE don't wear your pajamas to class. It would seem like common sense to most, but that looks totally unprofessional in almost every setting (unless you are going to a pajama party). And yes, some people in my class did this.

Although I do think it is probably best to wear business casual (yes, even in class) I never have. In fact, I look like a homeless person 90% of the time and let me explain to you why; I'm barely (last week) 21 years old, I've never had a "real job" outside of minimum wage, I own my own home and pay all of my own bills and was completely unable to work this whole year due to course load. I can't afford nice clothes, period. I wear hand-me-downs and goodwill clothing. However, I'm ALWAYS professional when I enter the classroom or anywhere else tied to the profession. Some have probably judged me based on clothing at first but as an officer of my class, an officer of our local SNA chapter, and an officer of our state SNA chapter I've earned respect with presentation. I wear dress pants and nice blouses for events that warrant such clothing (I have 3 outfits in rotation) but I simply can't afford to wear nice things every day. To sum up, I dot think it matters as much what you wear, it's how you present and carry yourself that your instructors will remember.

I always had to work before/after my classes, and I worked in a conservative office environment, so I was usually dressed professionally. I definitely took some (lighthearted) ribbing for being "so dressed up" at times.

We only have to wear our scrubs/white shoes at our clinicalsites. I start this semester and I plan to wear boots, jeans and a polo, t shirt, or button up. I'm from Oklahoma so this is the norm for a guy. I know a lot of students at my school just dress like they would for prerequisite classes. I pity y'all that have to wear your clinical uniform to lecture and lab too!
