What nursing task do you loathe???

Just realized today that I can't stand ostomy appliances. It's not the poop, it's just cutting and sizing the appliance and that messy paste. Tedious and irritating but somebody's gotta do it.

How about you?

For all that hate starting IVs. After 40 years of nursing I am now called the "Vein Whisperer". Have someone you is good at IVs mentor you--the skill will come with lots of practice!!

Add me to the grossed out by trachs club.

Don't like doing bed baths either. They are tedious. People always want them in the morning when I am trying to pass 0800 and 1000 meds.

Specializes in NICU, PICU, Transport, L&D, Hospice.
You forgot tenacious and green.

I'll do your trach care for ya.:bag:

You do my ostomies.

Deal, I am expert with ostomy care! I hate when the ileostomy bag spills though, then you need the poop whisperer.

Had, over the years, five different, really great vein spikers to mentor me. All agreed I was pretty hopeless. Plus, having people hold up their fingers in a cross shape when asked if they would let me practice on them....:cautious:........discouraging.

I couldn't hit a garden-hose with a 10-penny nail. I just had to accept that I was not perfect in all ways. ;)

Placing foleys on morbidly obese people who haven't washed down there in years!

Yeah, we need special smegma gloves and gowns for that one...maybe even safety glasses.

Specializes in Hospice.

False teeth. Especially when the patient popped them out and dropped them in my hand...which wasn't gloved because I wasn't actually planning on touching anything-I had just stopped by to give him some information.

And yes, they were nasty, grody and disgusting.

Specializes in Registered Nurse.

Probably Centraline dressing changes. Or CBI.

Specializes in SICU, trauma, neuro.
I can't stand suctioning trachs or trach care, but I oddly enough I find suctioning endotracheal tubes satisfying. Don't ask me why, I just feel there is a difference

Open system vs. closed system.

I hate responding to "Nursey" "honey" "sweetheart"...ect. I mean it is really hard to be professional when you want to yell "you don't know me like that!" Don't they know how disrespectful that sounds? If I am your nurse, I told you my name, it's on the whiteboard in your room I wear it on a name tag (with a really bad picture of me on it)! Use it, or if needed, just ring the call light and I will show up and you can see my badge again....anything but all those disrespectful cutesy names!

Specializes in Emergency.

Cleaning up UTI stinking urine-especially when all my cute little ol' lady patients all have horrible stench infused uti pee!!!

Specializes in ICU / PCU / Telemetry / Oncology.

OMG the trachs ... the TRACHS .... the sluuuuurrrrpp sound of that suction. I am gagging just thinking about it. Good Lord, if I dont see another trach in my lifetime I will be so grateful ... 😝

Placing NGT's. For some reason that feels like one of the most barbaric things to do to someone. I know good and well they will feel so much better once the abdomen is decompressed, but shoving something through the nose just looks like pure torture!!!

!

Oh God. Especially when they gag/vomit while you're doing it and the other end comes out of their mouth. I literally can't even.
