Just realized today that I can't stand ostomy appliances. It's not the poop, it's just cutting and sizing the appliance and that messy paste. Tedious and irritating but somebody's gotta do it.
How about you?

Hair. Seeing tangles of hair that are on the floor or on clothes grosses me out.

I am not a fan of oral care. I'll suction trachs, I like wound vacs. I like joint reductions, especially the Capt. Morgan. I don't mind feet. I even really like NGTubes. I guess I'm weird.
The ONLY time I almost puked with a patient was in a SBO when he began vomiting poop while I was placing the NGT. That is some nasty stuff.
Give me the gory the gross the sticky and slimy, but please, no oral care. I can LOOK in your mouth to assess presence of alterations, but I do NOT want to clean it.

I always hated rinsing out the basin after someone brushes their teeth. I would throw it away and get them a new one. I know not cost effective but it beats me getting sick in their room.

I'll do your trachs and ostomies, if you'll do my blood draws and IV starts.
I am another one who has never been able to hit a vein. I am soooo jealous of people to whom it comes so easily!

As far as mundane tasks go, I detest feeding people. The food alone is usually enough to make me gag. And why are they always edentulous? If you can't chew, and you're in the ICU, you need tube feeding, right? That's my theory, anyway.
As far as mechanisms of injury, I HATE anything involving teeth or eyes. We had a lady with some amoeba in her eye and we were waiting for it to rupture. Every time I had to put eye drops in that green enlarged eye, I gagged. Give me wounds, disimpactions, and ostomies any day. I'm also not a fan of neuro patients because I don't like waking people up every 2 hours. Let them sleep or they'll get squirrelly!

After 40 years of nursing the one thing that can still make me gag is the smell of stool from a GI bleed patient. Also, I suck at putting diapers on when patient is bedridden--can never get both sides even!! Doh!!
