My supplies list for school says I need a pair of white nurse's shoes.
What makes a shoe a "nurse's shoe"? Anything white? White and sturdy? White and comfortable? Any particular brands?
I don't like Crocs but I'm okay with tennis shoes or gym shoes. Is that what they have in mind?

I recommend Cherokee rockers. I loved this shoe during clinicals. While others were screaming that their feet were killing them at the end of the day, I was amazed at how my feet felt. These shoes have another advantage...so lightweight. Check them out, you won't be disappointed and your instructors will be pleased.

Check out this thread, I kept it because it has some great advice for shoes. I don't need them now, but I will eventually. Good luck!!

LOL - comfy rules! There are some other considerations also - related to infection control. Clinical shoes need to be 'cleanable' in case of spills and have non-skid soles. Most of us 'tenured' folks also realize the importance of arch support & overall good fit. I think that some organizations still have restrictions that require shoes to be pretty much all-white in appearance.

Try Danskos- they are a little pricier, but SO worth the money. Seriously, my feet don't even hurt after clinical even though I've been on them for hours. All the nurses at my clinical site have stopped me and said "are those Danskos? Aren't they great?" so they have a good reputation.
Other than that, maybe check with your clinical instructor to see what is acceptable. Some places will not allow Crocs. My school required that the shoes be white, leather or some other "cleanable" material (but not fabric), and no holes in them.

I have a pair of Danskos I love, but when I graduated nursing school and wanted to buy a pair that weren't white, I found they were less comfortable than my first pair. As it turns out, they recently gave up their contract with the company that used to make their soles, so I ended up buying Sanita shoes (they used to make Dansko soles). Just be careful about fit - be sure to try them on before buying. I had to buy a larger size than I wear in American sizes.

I bought a ten dollar pair of tennis shoes from walmart, they are comfy and all white. I can't afford the " nurse shoes" yet.
I think my best bet is to go to a store that has a selection and try them on.
I have a cheap pair of white sneakers from Payless--the label says they're leather but my feet always get sweaty in them.
Also I live 2 miles from school... I might jog there some days. Although probably not on clinical days.

I wear Black Dansko's for everyday. I've had the same pair for three years now (still look great!) and can definitely tell you that they last and are very, very comfortable. Worth the money because I don't have to replace them.
At clinical I wear a pair of white Dansko's, but at my job as a CNA in a hospital I wear MBT sneakers. Again, pricey, but for twelve straight hours of running my fanny off, you can't beat these.

I bought the $10 walmart shoes while waiting for my tax return to come in.
They're not at all attractive, and I don't trust them to hold up, but I think they may be more comfy than the $50 nursemates.
