hi everybody,
I always try to think positive thoughts, However, i also like to think about alternatives. Its inevitable for me to think what would happen if I dont get admitted into a nursing program. So thats my question, What happens after investing all your time and energy into your pre-requisites and although you have good grades they are not good enough to get admitted into a nursing program? I've heard people say that they've been denied with 3.0's and up.. so What happens? are you forced to change your carrer path? can you apply those classes to another profession? What are the alternatives or choices for those who dont get admitted into nursing school? What are your plans if you dont get admitted?
thanks a lot!

I had no other plan except to keep trying, keep believing, and having faith. My sister and I both applied for fall 06'. I got in and she is on the alternate list for one of the three colleges we applied. She was hurt and so was i but she has decided to press through and continue on. She is going to finish taking all her bachelor prereq's and apply again for fall 07. It all depends on the cry of your heart and what YOU are called to do. May God bless you in what ever decision you make.

Have you applied to all the schools in your area? You don't want to put all your eggs in one basket so to speak. I would check the requirements for all the ADN and BSN programs in my area and see how many work for you.
Also have you looked at starting out as an LVN/LPN and bridging over to RN? It make take a little longer but it's also another good option to have.
Good luck to you whatever you do.

If I don't get in I will start working on the prereqs for the BSN and try to get them done within a year and will also re-apply to the ADN program again next March.

I agree with the others, you just press on. If you know where you may have lost or may not have received points, then you work to fix those areas.
For example, I need to finish my co-reqs (non nursing classes required for my ADN) so I will do so. Others I know were told to retake classes to achieve a higher GPA. Still others do not have anything to do to improve his/her points so they will take courses toward his/her BSN or (if not interested in a BSN) they will work and save up money.
Whatever you do, you don't quit unless you look deep within and realize this is not for you. Good luck.

Don't give up! Consider schools in nearby cities (to avoid out of state fees). Another option would be the LPN-RN-BSN track. If you can dream about it, you can make it happen!!!!!!!

Well, I'm applying to one school that starts in Aug. If they don't accept me, I'll start working on classes for a BSN, as I've been granted a seat in clinicals at a different nursing school in Feb '07 (I just don't want to wait that long!)

Dreamer, remember determination is key to success. If you really want to be a nurse, you have to continue trying. Like myself, all the community colleges in my area have long waiting lists. I am not getting younger, so I am decided to apply to a private school instead. Thankfully, I was accepted in 2004. I heard someone told me the other day, they now have a waiting list, but not as long as the community colleges. Good luck to you.

you try again.
I am going to retake some classes that I have Bs in and save $$ while I can still work full time.

My plan if I didn't get in was to keep chipping away at my pre-reqs, volunteer/shadow at my local hospital, possibly even get a job there, and take an EMT course.
If you have to wait another year, try to add in things that will make your application more appealing. Volunteer in a healthcare setting. Make good connections with professionals/professors who can provide impressive recommendations. And keep believing that you'll get in, because you WILL!!

I had a 3.77 on pre-reqs and all of my non-nursing courses completed with a 3.82 when I applied for Spring '06. There were 15 students with 4.0's that didn't get accepted for that semester.
I retook my Algebra class, and took a Music Appreciation class. For Fall '06, I applied with a 4.0/4.0. (3.77's were admitted this semester though...lol...You never know what the cut-off GPA will be.)
Sometimes you have to retake classes, take more classes, or simply keep reapplying.
Never give up. If you want to take other classes while you wait, go for it, but if nursing is what you want to do, keep applying!
GOOD LUCK!

If I don't get accepted into nursing school I will resume my initial goal to become a teacher. The latest I have found about the BSN program that I am working towards is a minimum GPA of 3.6 and only 1 in 5 applicants will be admitted......I have a lot of odds against me....I am an older student, I am an immigrant....so I just have to take a chance at it and see...if not I will make a BETTER teacher than if I hadn't taken all those science classes.
