Im not a nurse, but im considering it.(18 years old)
I know that in nursing school you only have time for studying because of the intense work load. But how does that change once you have a job?
I personally have a passion for drawing, and after not drawing for about 2 years, im slowly getting back into it and realizing how much I love it. A small percentage of me would want to go to art school, but it doesn't seem to offer much stability. I definitely want to have enough time to draw, perhaps do freelance work, take art classes, etc and basically still enjoy life. I wouldn't want my life to revolve around nursing, and i'd be broken hearted if I couldnt do art as much as I'd like to.
So...what do you guys like to do outside of work? How do you manage a work/personal life balance?
I like to go yoga. I also like to spend time at the gym.
I love getting immersed in a good book on my days off.
Study a foreign language (trying to learn medical Spanish and learning Japanese because I have an interest in it!)
Bike riding
Spending time with my husband (which lately hasn't been much, we're both very busy people)
Spend time in nature
Nap :)
Play video games
Pre-Nursing here. I plan to take up horseback riding again once I enter Nursing school. It is my number one way to relieve stress besides sex of course lol!
I'm a mom of 2 kids and in a common law marriage. Growing up competing at shows, it was pretty common to come across a nurse who showed. One lady that stood out was an ED nurse and she competed every weekend with 3 horses. Nice animals she had. Her kids had multiple show ponies too that were pretty nice. I use her as a role model because I want to be able to show again while working as a RN.
If I'm not riding, I'm playing video games. Mortal Kombat X has my attention right now.
Travel. Read. Walk the dog. Knit. Crochet. Play video games. Surf the net. Clean.Right now I'm redecorating a few rooms in my house and trying to decide where I want to go for my next vacation.
If you're looking to stay within the States, I recommend Destin, Fl. Just got back and it was breathtakingly beautiful. Crisp, clear, blue waters. White soft sand. Super friendly locals. Shopping. Great food. AFFORDABLE. Go for it.

Is it hot/humid? What's the food like? My husband and I typically plan our vacations around the kind of food there. Inland Nicaragua was a bit disappointing.
I make special occasion cakes for my children's birthdays, others' birthdays, weddings, showers etc.
I love music -- my first major was music. I continued to play and sing for church and for fun during and after nursing school.
I like to read -- I did it in nursing school too.
I like to make photo books -- I used to scrapbook, now I use online photo places.
My sister works full-time, has a toddler, and makes time to quilt and paint. I have a friend who stays at home, but takes commissions for pencil portraits. You can absolutely keep art in your life...in fact, if you love it you should keep it in your life.
Now about this idea that you'll only have time for studying in nursing school. It's not true. NS is demanding, but not all-consuming. Many of us manage to do it while working and raising children, and yes even reading novels. :)
