What do you guys like to do in your free time?

Published

Im not a nurse, but im considering it.(18 years old)

I know that in nursing school you only have time for studying because of the intense work load. But how does that change once you have a job?

I personally have a passion for drawing, and after not drawing for about 2 years, im slowly getting back into it and realizing how much I love it. A small percentage of me would want to go to art school, but it doesn't seem to offer much stability. I definitely want to have enough time to draw, perhaps do freelance work, take art classes, etc and basically still enjoy life. I wouldn't want my life to revolve around nursing, and i'd be broken hearted if I couldnt do art as much as I'd like to.

So...what do you guys like to do outside of work? How do you manage a work/personal life balance?

I work from home, so the work- life balance is pretty easy. I cook, read, and spoil my dog.

Best of luck in your nursing endeavors. You have a special talent... I hope you never lose it to any job.

You must be gifted. I myself have a genius IQ and pulled many all nighters. During my OB rotation, I had the text book open in the car so I could read during a stoplight.

I found nursing school to be an exceptional challenge. I knew I could flunk out during any given 4 week time frame, I was not going to fail.

I'm not a genius (no, really!) and it was hard but I didn't bust my butt over it.

Oh, forgot to include things I enjoy. Hopefully, after becoming a nurse, I'll still have time to make for these: video games, watching movies, knitting/crocheting, attempting to cook/bake, playing guitar and piano, stalking AN, and eating.

I was reading your response on my phone app and the word "stalking" and "AN" were on different lines. I had to read 3 times to realize there was no comma after stalking. Thank goodness you enjoy stalking AN and not stalking, AN, and eating.

I need a nap and a new glasses.

And did you see that PS4 is remaking FFVII? I'm considering buying a PS4 just so I can play!

I saw that! Im still not sure if im willing to break bread for the ps4 though. Lol. I know everyone HATED ffXII but that one was my absolute favorite. Playing FFXIII-2 right now and it's pretty "meh". Definitely not a VII.

Nahn. Im not gifted by any means. Im slightly better than average on the scale of scholastic achievement. But thats great that you were able to stay focused and that you did what works for you :).

I always make time for reading, and I just finished rereading the GOT series. I'm single with no kids, so I use my PTO to travel as well. I'm hoping to visit Cancun next year. I think I'll look into volunteering or picking up a class like creative writing at the local community college. Nursing doesn't mean you won't have a life. Even though people say nursing school is hard, you can make time for your hobbies. I used to play Maplestory back in school, which was mindlessly fun. After I started working, I was finally making money to have a life and ENJOY it!

I have my kids, and my husband to take care of.

I love to read, and belong to couple of groups which meet regularly. Support for people with severe allergies and a small community of amateur medievalists.

I translate medical books and documents for people from my former country who do not speak English.

And if I feel like it, like today, I cook and bake, bake, bake!

White I've been on a sauv blanc kick.

Reds I'll drink it all, especially Italian reds.

Dry only need apply.

I collect Barbie dolls (modern to vintage.)

I would love to see your Barbie collection! How fun.

As for me, I like to knit/crochet/cross stitch/do various other crafty things. I live in Oregon "wine country" and like to go to events and tastings at the wineries. I love the Netflix and Kindle apps on my iPad. I collect Fiestaware in blue/green shades and love looking for pieces at thrift stores and yard sales.

My pets keep me busy. I have a dorky little Jack Russell terrier who has no manners or attention span (but makes up for it with epic snuggles), and two total "mama's boy" tabby cats that I rescued as feral kittens.
