What you get for nurses week

Published

I just found out that Cinnabon is giving nurses a free cinnabon for nurses week. Just what my plump and juicy butt needs... :yeah:

In clinical today, they had sandwiches for the nurses....that Cinnabon sounded pretty good.....

What!! I am so jealous. I have never gotten anything like that. That actually shows some appreciation. My hospital always gives something lame like an umbrella w/their logo on it. It's nothing but free advertising under the guise of a gift.

Yeah, the last time I worked on Nurses Week we got a free meal in the cafeteria, whoopee(:barf01:)....oh yeah and a tile coaster with a photograph of our new building....whahoo:(.

Box of Dove chocolates and lunch at a local restaurant. I'll take it!

Nada. Nada @$#% thing. They are so grateful for our blood, sweat, and tears.:(

We were given T-shirts, a nice breakfast, and a catered lunch. The nicest part of nurses week for me was a "blessing of the hands". We had our hands annointed with oil and a prayer was said by our chaplain, it was really touching.

I work for a private practice and a hosptial....nothing from either one so far~not even a pat on the back!

My hubby got me some pretty flowers though!

A stainless mug with the hospital logo (can't have anything except water in the pt care area) and a nylon camp chair with aforementioned logo. Also had Chinese catered tonight, which pales in comparison to the 6 days of food, prizes and festivities planned between 10-4 for the dayshifters.

My last hospital had full catered meals and desserts with chocolate fountains, etc for both shifts.

This year they did pretty good, the staff nurses were all fitted for brand new Nike Shox that will be embroidered with the hospital's logo, but i'm not a staff nurse yet so fingers crossed for next year lol

Wow, I'd about fall over dead if we got anything like that! I wouldn't even care if the logo was on there, if it was something that could make me be more comfortable at work!

Mostly, we get things with logos that just are another way to stretch advertising dollars and claim they're doing something for us: each year, another tote bag, mug, pen, t-shirt. How about emory boards with the hospital logo?!?

I suppose I could be really stylin' and walk around the block with all of that on, LOL....a walking billboard for my Hospital of Choice.

If you work days, you've got it made with the cake, ice cream, various perks offered during the day. Those of us who work nights, well....oh well. They don't offer any goodies that can be there on multiple days, either: if you're not in that day, oh well.

I work for a private practice and they had lunch. However, I don't work at the office - lol!

Night shift seems to be the forgotten group. We, too, got a schedule with all the fun activities/foods planned for the day, but like others have said, who's going to drive in for a piece of cake or a "light" supper. Not me, anyway .

That outdoor movie thing sounds fun :).

I am new ADON at my facility and this was my first Nurses Week with the nurses. It was exhausting but I arranged breakfast or lunch for each day for all three shifts:yeah:. I made sure that the Nurses and CNA's had something to eat before others! I asked all doctors and they ALL gave gift certs that I could use as a give away for each shift. Our vendors we happy to in-service the Nurses and CNA's during lunch. I didn't want any one to feel left out. I have worked all shifts and I have not forgotten it. I also found that vendors that we were thinking of changing were happy to supply give aways and lunches. My goal for next year is at lease a $25 gift card for each nurse.

It was really funny when the OT/PT department asked me when was their week and why they didn't have a lunch. I replyed that they have a month (not a week)in April and Oct. I encouraged them to become passionate about what they do and start planning for Oct.:redpinkhe

Tomorrow, May 12th, is the last day of Nurses Week and the birthday of Florence Nightengale.

One of my coworkers (I work for a healthcare-related company) asked me what hospitals typically do for the nurses for Nurses Week. I explained that the hospital tallies up how many nurses it employes and looks at how much $ it has budgeted for the event. It then figures out how much it has to spend for each nurse and selects an item at or below that price point. It may also provide each unit with some food items, and the hospital's medical staff may also give the unit a gift.

What is the most memorable gift you've ever gotten during Nurses Week--be it fabulous  or stupid, silly, cheap or cheesy?
