And what is your least favorite?

My favorites: changing IV dressings , wound care, Foley D/c (is just good to see a patient can void without that tube in), trach care ( I love when I can help someone breath better instantly)

What about you?

I'm kind of digging (no pun intended) doing Covid swabs. I always volunteer whenever we have a PUI on the unit.

Oh me too! My FQHC has essentially been converted to a mass testing site, and I am the primary tester. The two reactions I get are “Oh that wasn’t as bad as I thought” And “OMG WTH I think you swabbed my brain!”

Specializes in CMSRN, hospice.

Favorites are foleys, IVs (if I'mhaving a good day), maintaining NGT/PEG. I am starting to really dig wound care too!

Least favorite are inserting NGT and trach care. I see trachs so infrequently that when I do I'm basically relearning the whole thing.

Specializes in ER, Pre-Op, PACU.

US guided IVs......and sounds stupid but I love making “dental balls” for fast track patients ?

Nothing like a good extubation. Especially when the family comes back to find their loved one up in a chair, feeling better and working towards transfer out of ICU

Hairwashing and a good shave are things I like doing when I get the chance.

Dressing changes are my favorite. I love making them look so pretty and clean. I also like to do arterial sticks.

I hate IVs. The only time foleys are satisfying are when I get a bunch out and I know the patient feels better.

what is a dental ball? Just curious!

I like assisting with any bedside procedures in ICU. I'm always pleased that I good at catheterization and NG/OG tubes from baby to elderly.

I actually hate IV and phlebotomy sticks. I used to be good but once I started working in a high level ICU where nearly everyone had a line and the aides liked to to draws if they needed a cx, I lost all skill. I can't seem to get it back and dread every attempt. My aging eyes don't help. I guess this is why ICU nurses usually retire to PACU, LOL.

It’s cotton balls soaked in Benadryl, viscous lidocaine, etc.

Specializes in Critical Care.

I like changing dressings on lines and I love the flash back of blood on an EASY stick.

Specializes in med-surg, IMC, school nursing, NICU.

Favorites when I worked with adults: foley insertions, mouth care on REALLY crusty long term trach patients who clearly hadn’t had good mouth care in a while, smooth IV insertions, accessing ports.

Least favorites with adults: trach care, wound dressing changes, IVs that would flash but not advance.

Favorites in the NICU: intubations, changing the whole face of a super spitty CPAP kid, suctioning a gigantic goober from an ETT.

Least favorite in NICU: PKUs, any blood where the heel won’t bleed, inserting NGTs on big cranky kids who hate it and fight you.
