And what is your least favorite?

My favorites: changing IV dressings , wound care, Foley D/c (is just good to see a patient can void without that tube in), trach care ( I love when I can help someone breath better instantly)

What about you?

IVs and NG tubes!

Specializes in Community Health, Med/Surg, ICU Stepdown.

IVs, especially with ultrasound. And wound vacs! I love when it seals on the first try with no air leak, but when it doesn't I want to pull my hair out. It is so cool watching the vacuum suction the wound closed and it helps wounds heal so much more quickly! love it

Bedside ECMO cannulation

Of the few I have learned so far in school, probably I.M injections. It's just very satisfying IMO, LOL. ?

Wound Care. The more complicated and bigger the better. I love to see the progress too.

Exactly this! It's so rewarding if the patient has a longer stay and you see the progress from one week to the next.

I work outpatient and I flush ears. It is so gross but there’s a moment when the patient suddenly feels their ear clear, and they are always like “Praise Jesus!” It’s satisfying.

yesss! I forgot about this! When I did community health I felt the same way... disgusting but satisfying! I've washed out a bead, leaves, a cockroach and a spider...

Removing stitches is my favorite, staples too.

Ear flushing is only satisfying for me if huge chunk comes out, love that.

Don't think I've found a least favorite yet. Clipping toenails can also be cool.

Specializes in LTC, assisted living, med-surg, psych.

I was the Catheter Queen in my student days and was the first in my class to be turned loose on that particular skill. I also really loved being the nurse the other floors called on to start an IV that they couldn't get. It took me what seemed like forever to master the skill, but when I finally did I got better fast. I still miss doing those tasks!
