  1. IVs and NG tubes!
  2. At the end of the day, the courses are pass/fail. If you achieve a grade above the minimum requirement, you've passed.; if you don't, you've failed. The only thing that pass/fail affects is your overall GPA. Many nursing schools cannot change their grading system without it affecting their accreditation (which would potentially impact your ability to get your licence). Also, if you plan to go on to graduate school, GPA matters; pass/fail may affect your ability to get into graduate school.... Stay safe!
  3. Hi all, So, I'm full time faculty and recently found out I'm pregnant (yay!), due the end of November. When did you tell your dean/director that you are expecting? I'm thinking that I might be able to make it to the end of the fall semester before I need to leave, but I know that anything can happen. I would love to take a full 12 weeks off after the birth, but that would put me back in the classroom around the middle of February. Did your institutions work with you? Did you have to take a leave of absence for the entire semester? Thanks all!
  4. I never did...opens you up to much liability. There are nursing interventions that you can use as a stop gap until you can get an official order. If it's a life-threatening event and you need immediate orders, that's why we have rapid-responses and codes.
  5. I strongly encourage you to *not* do this. You will most likely make some waves for yourself in your school that you don't want to have to surf. It's difficult to find clinical placements for students and a student calling to find out why they can't attend a clinical at the hospital or trying to find an alternate site will not be looked upon fondly. Many students have to travel far for their clinicals, it's the nature of the beast sometimes. However, I don't condone what the hospitals are doing to you by denying you an educational experience due to your gender. That's definitely something to report to the BON.
  6. You may want to change your username if that is your real name...
  7. Why should the sitter have to be exposed to their carcinogenic smoke?
  8. Are you 100% sure that there wasn't additional assigned readings that were not in the textbook? Or that the instructor didn't mention it during lecture?
  9. I'm also interested in learning more.
  10. I'm *still* writing my dissertation...this has proven to be an exercise in patience...lol
  11. My thoughts as well...what are you going to do when she gets disciplined, or denied her choice of specialty/schedule/vacation at work? There's no reason you still can't be her biggest supporter/confidant, but it's time for her to fight her own battles...
  12. I always hated having my stethoscope round my neck, so I carried it in the cargo pocket of my scrub pants. Of course, this required me to ut only scrub pants with a cargo pocket...
  13. I've always wondered how expensive having a horse is, can you tell me how much your horse costs or would the number be skewed as yours is a very high horse?
  14. Question for all the school nurses: for those of you that need to go with the students requiring a med, does that leave the rest of your student population without a healthcare professional to administer their meds?
