If you had the chance to work in ANY specialty, anywhere you wanted, where would it be and why? Which do you day-dream about? The one unit and setting that really makes your heart pound in a good way. Where you whistle as you stroll into work.
Have you already found your dream job?
Let's hear it.
Mine would be pediatric cardiovascular icu. I just think that sounds so dang rad. Pedatrics, and everything critical care entails, is highly appealing to me.
Why do you love your dream specialty?
:)
I would like to work in a clinic with a pediatrician. My ideal job would be to work in day surgery. The problem with both of those jobs is they are day shift, and I absolutely despise working days.
So now I work on a med oncology floor. I enjoy providing care for the end of life patients and their families, and I'm studying for the hospice and palliative care certification exam.
I currently work in half of my dream job, lol. Adult oncology. But my complete dream job is Peds Onco at St. Jude's Children's research hospital. However, I would dig any major children's hospital around the country for a Peds Hem/Onco position.
slowly working towards it! I'm in Onco, gonna get my OCN once my year is passed, look into Peds at either my current hospital or move back home or be bold and apply to St Judes.
I was in nursing school in the 80's. They told me the same thing: work a year in med surg first. Such BULL. I went straight into the NICU as a new grad. I didn't like working with adults either. Keep looking for NICU!! Don't give up! You don't need med surg first. My dream job would be to do something else and get the same pay!! I've been a nurse for 25 years and I am TIRED.

My dream unit, right now, is Peds oncology and if I can't have that, anything Peds related. I'm a 4th level nursing student so I'm not sure if that will change after I complete my critical care clinical rotation. I just know that I would rather not deal with adults.
