  1. I am allergic to one of the more commonly used fragrances and have pretty oily skin, so I have gone through many shampoos, conditioners and soaps. The one that I currently use that I LOVE is Nexxus shampoo and conditioner for my hair (It is the only thing that I have found to control the oil for 24 hours) and Dove Sensitive Skin for my body.
  2. Does anyone else have anything to add? I would really like to improve any way that I can.
  3. Same here. I mostly opened this thread because I thought it would somehow involve Doritos.
  4. Thank you. I really appreciate your advice.
  5. I am working as an ER tech while I wait to start nursing school as a second bachelor's degree in the fall. I also volunteer for a rape crisis center, which sends me on a lot of ER calls. I saw a victim of a particularly heinous sexual assault in the ER a few weeks ago. Keeping with my role as an advocate, I asked her how she was doing emotionally. She opened up to me and told me how she was feeling. She felt dirty. I really didn't know how to respond to that and just hugged her and let out a sympathetic "Oh, honey". This did nothing for her and I got a sense that I lost the connection with her. So, I resorted to bringing her pillows and blankies and not talking much more. In the ER, we see a lot of horrible things. How do you find the words to say in cases like these? Is this something that can even be learned?
  6. My first name is Kate and I love to run. :) I made the account when I was trying to lose some of the weight I gained throughout college and was starting to really get into it.
  7. I thought I was the only one! My father bought himself a motorcycle when my parents got divorced because my mother would never let him have one. He got in an accident on it in his late 40s and became a higher thoracic paraplegic. These people really haunt me too and stick with me.
  8. I would take the harder job. I bet you would find it more meaningful to do what you trained for. With that said, for me, a three-hour commute would be enough to make me turn down any job. That is precious time you could be doing something with instead of wasting on commuting. Additionally, think of all of the money you would wind up wasting on gas. There are also potential safety concerns if you will be driving, particularly if you live in an area with rough winters.
  9. Hugs, NurseOnAMotorcycle. Your sadness honors these folks.
  10. The Emergency Department hands down
  11. I'm a very energetic woman (It's part of what attracted me to nursing; I like the idea of being on my feet all day. lol) and enjoy outdoor activities such as running, biking, hiking, horseback riding, and archery. I also love to read.
  12. I'm not a nurse(EMT applying to nursing school), but I have volunteered for a rape crisis center for a long time now and I will always remember my first survivor. It was 3 in the morning and I was waiting with her in the ED for her discharge stuff when she mentioned that my eyes were a bit red from sleepiness. I mentioned that when county crisis called me to the ER, I had just gotten home from taking my then boyfriend, now husband, to the airport after being up at 5 am to go to work that day. It turned out she had actually been at the same airport at the same time I was in the same terminal dropping someone off at the airline next to my husband's when she went home with the man who sexually assaulted her later that night. It was eerie.
  13. I'm not a nurse (currently applying to nursing school), but I remember way back in freshman biology, my professor's favorite little tidbit was feces being brown because of dead red blood cells from the liver. (Forgive me if this is incorrect. It has been many years since both that class and Physio for me.) I had another professor who taught Developmental Psych and was a clinical psych by training. She liked to make excessive references to The House of God. Her favorite was, "They can always hurt you more."
