What is your dream unit?

Published

If you had the chance to work in ANY specialty, anywhere you wanted, where would it be and why? Which do you day-dream about? The one unit and setting that really makes your heart pound in a good way. Where you whistle as you stroll into work.

Have you already found your dream job?

Let's hear it.

Mine would be pediatric cardiovascular icu. I just think that sounds so dang rad. Pedatrics, and everything critical care entails, is highly appealing to me.

Why do you love your dream specialty?

:)

I will definitely be lurking plenty now! I started day one as a school nurse today. The students haven't come back yet, but I'm already enjoying the change to school nursing a lot! (:

We have fun over there. Lots of experienced school nurses to help you out as well! Good luck!

I'm drawn to several different directions.

NICU, pediatric surgery or pediatric oncology.

Also interested in trying day surgery and school nursing.

I got my dream unit as a new grad (L&D) but am not really into it any more.

My new job is mother baby which I think I'll enjoy and may be a good stepping stone to Peds, but not a dream unit.

Specializes in neonatal.

I've been a NICU nurse for many years and I love it. Couldn't imagine working anywhere else. Love the babies.

I've taken a recent interest in peds oncology.

Not sure why, still exploring that.

I've been on the patient side of that. Can't imagine what it takes as a nurse to be the caregiver for both the critically ill child, and the parents.

When you figure out if/ why this is your calling... please let us know.

I will. I'm not going to actively pursue it until I figure out what sparked it. I want to make sure this fire inside me is real first.

Sounds like a big fire with a big spark. Thinking you will find the fuse, soon.

Please feel free to PM me. Been there, did that .

Specializes in Medical-Surgical/Float Pool/Stepdown.

A surgical trauma unit with adults only. I would love to do ICU or ED but know I can't emotionally handle Peds (or their parents for that matter). Otherwise, I'm in my dream job already as a Med-Surg/IMC float nurse at a level 1 trauma/teaching hospital with decent ratios and support for nursing staff.

Specializes in Adult Psychiatric.

As an outpatient PMHNP specializing in PTSD and ASD related to high stress jobs (i.e. law enforcement, trauma health care workers, etc.)
