If you had the chance to work in ANY specialty, anywhere you wanted, where would it be and why? Which do you day-dream about? The one unit and setting that really makes your heart pound in a good way. Where you whistle as you stroll into work.
Have you already found your dream job?
Let's hear it.
Mine would be pediatric cardiovascular icu. I just think that sounds so dang rad. Pedatrics, and everything critical care entails, is highly appealing to me.
Why do you love your dream specialty?
:)
I currently work as a PCA on an pediatric inpatient neuro unit and am loving it! We get ENT kiddos also - I'm not into that so much.
Other than that: NICU, I've also floated to the CTICU a couple times and very much enjoyed it (which coincidentally happens to be mostly babies). I would love the challenge and fast pace of an ICU. Having downtime drives me nuts.
Can't remember if I've already posted...so I'll do it again!
Here are mine (in no specific order):
-CVICU
-Cardiothoracic OR
-Outpatient Vascular Surgery
-Cardiac Cath Lab
-Clinical Research (HIV/AIDs, Alzheimer's disease, Cancer)
My dream unit would be one where I could work 7am-4pm or 8am-5pm, M-Th (with maybe one weekend/month), with 1 hour lunch break, supportive/helpful co-workers and management, with no chance that I could be floated to OB or Peds. Plus the hospital/office would be 15-20 minutes from my house, with excellent pay and benefits. Well, I can dream...can't I?

First few hours of first shift I fell deeply in love with the ER. No other place that you can just hold hands, listen, make it all better, and get what's needed FAST! DISCLAIMER: I am not a nurse (yet :). I love the variety and speed of everything, also the camaraderie that comes only through such stressors as running out of very simple things like pillows and here comes a chronic back pain pt who fell.
