The worst job you had before becoming a Nurse?
The worst job I ever had was through a temp agency the summer before I started my nursing program. The company I worked for had hard copy invoices that needed to be put through a scanner so that the information could be stored on the computer. Before those invoices could go through the scanner, all staples had to be removed. Yes...I spent 40 hours each week doing nothing but removing staples from paper. Which makes me appreciate my CAREER now even more. 🤓

I want to move out of rehab
I used to work on an ortho floor and they hired nurses who had previously worked rehab often! You having your ACLS already is definitely a plus!

Drowning because I failed
What did you use to study the first time? Have you gotten your results back to see what categories you did poorly in?

Words You Hate
Medical words I don't like: Smegma, crepitus, weeping (wounds). Other words I don't like: student loans, adulthood, pants.

ixchel's 3/7/16 What Have I Learned This Week, with A Lil' Help From My Friends!
This week I have learned patience. Showed up in my new scrubs, with my brand new RN badge, and my brand new license excited to start my career Monday morning only to be sent away after finding out my background check was still pending. Time to wait two weeks for the next orientation. Now I'm essentially unemployed for two weeks and going crazy with all of this free time. Helloooo spring cleaning. [emoji12]

What should I start studying for Nursing from this point?
I bought the Saunder's NCLEX-RN Comprehensive Review book at the very beginning of nursing school (Barnes and Noble ~$50-$60). I used it to study for exams while it was in school. It's broken up by body system so when I had a neuro test I could just go to the neuro section and review some content which is broken up outline style and also do the practice questions in the back of each chapter that come with nice rationales for why what is right is right and why what is wrong is wrong. By the time I was done with school I was super used to NCLEX style questions and passed my boards in 75 questions. A great resource the whole way through the program! Also, get used to using a planner and managing your time. Don't forget to plan some time for yourself!

Does your facility require a BSN?
Fort Wayne has two different hospital networks that each own multiple hospitals. Lutheran Health Network hires ASNs and requires no BSN. Parkview Health will hire ASNs but requires that they obtain their BSN within five years of their hire date.

New Nurse "Grocery List"
Hi everyone, I'm a new grad starting my first RN job on a surgical floor this Monday. I wanted to make a list of things I would need to start my new job, and I could use some help. From things like bandage scissors to helpful literature to malpractice insurance; what should be on my new nurse grocery list?

2/27 What I learned this week: crying on the job feels so much better when they're happy t
This week I learned: That the NCLEX is as terrifying as they say. Nothing prepares you for that blue screen. However, the post test tears thinking how badly I failed were soon forgotten when the tears of joy from seeing my license number came. [emoji16] That in times of need it is easy to see who will be there to support you and who won't because they have their own agenda. How awesome saying "I'm a nurse" is. I am very proud to be a part of this profession! That I miss my family. Living two hours away from them hasn't gotten much easier over the past six months. It probably doesn't help that I still haven't made any friends here. Maybe I will in my new residency program? I feel like a kid about to start kindergarten. [emoji29] That though I have loved my nurse apprentice job in orthopedics, I'm very ready to leave and begin my adventure on a surgical floor of a new hospital next week!

NCLEX review
Kaplan for sure! That was almost exclusively what I used and I passed yesterday in 75 questions.

Need help with nclex rn
I cannot tell you enough how much the Kaplan questions helped me. I believe you can purchase the Qbanks without having to take the whole course. I did not feel very content strong whatsoever, but got stronger at answering NCLEX questions. I passed yesterday with 75 questions using the Kaplan questions.
