What do your coworkers do to annoy you?

Nurses General Nursing

Last night when I got report from the RN who was leaving, he told me the doc had ordered a stat med for one of my patients. After report, I checked the chart, and found the order timed for a half hour before the start of my shift. I bit my tongue, gave the med, and when I discarded the syringe, found the sharps container overflowing. This was just too much, so I caught the other nurse just as he was leaving, and gave him an earful about the sharps container. He responded that the aides are supposed to replace the containers. This was the final straw. Not only had he not given a stat med ordered on his shift, he had put me at risk for a needle stick, then used the "It's not my job" excuse. I let him have it with both barrels. After he left, I checked on my other patient, a GI bleed who was having frequent bloody stools. She wanted to be helped off the bed pan, but I had to make her wait while I went for gloves, because the box in the room was empty. :( :(

I was venting to some of the others on my shift, and we came up with a list of co workers' annoying habits.

Not emptying an overflowing garbage can.

Leaving packaging from meds all over the counter in the med room.

Starting the GoLytely prep an hour before the end of their shift.

Leaving the bags from discontinued IV meds hanging at the bedside.

Leaving a patient in a dirty gown after he has spilled food on himself.

Not giving pain meds on time.

Leaving a patient's room a mess.

Not making sure there are adequate supplies in the room so you don't have to run for everything you need.

Not doing mouth care.

Always coming 5 or 10 minutes late and delaying report while they pour coffee and "get organized."

Giggling and whispering in report.

Not answering call bells for any patient but their own.

I'm sure I could come up with many more if I thought about it some more.

Nurses that STUDY the schudule, analyzing EVERYONE'S hours as being better than hers. Nothing better to do with your time and everyone knowing "there is no way to please you anyway!"

hate the habit of one particualar nurse with whom i work..nice person but not good coworker..spends most of her day b!tch!ing about how much much work she has..when if she dedicated half that time to actually DOING said work..she'd not be so behind...procrastinates, then moves visits to the next day (we do home care)...expects evryone else to pick up her slack i literally do between 3-5X the number of visits that she does...AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! gotta go pour a glass of wine and chill out..sorry!!!

Sunnygirl , I think I must have worked with her twin.

This one would talk to her boyfriend every morning for at least 1/2 hour . She was 1/2 time , but one month she saw a grand total of 5 pt's. She is an FNP and could / should order meds for her pt's , I would put in the orders , she would sign them . I am an LPN and a good one I think , but it scared the he11 out of me to think she would just sign any order I put in . Anything to keep from having to do something.

Thank God she is not here any more .

ok..here i go again...there is also another nurse who spends hours: talking to her b/f, talkign toher son, balancing her checkboook, talking to her friends about social plans... she has no real responsiblities..or i should say she delegates all of her work...mgmt thinks she is os efficient for her skills at delegation....

the frst one i c/o is in her 50s...has a family...has been sent to several time-mgmt seminars....

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaggggggggggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhh...here i go...gotta get more wine

I work in LTC and our primary nursing assignment was recently changed. Since I am a full timer I now am primarily responsible for a quarter of the unit. I like the responsibility and it gives me an outlit for my escessive need to organize everything. Anyway my primaries are new to me and was I ever Pi**ed off when I opened the kardex and careplan and found them way way inaccurate and seriously out of date. There was actually a resident who had been admitted to the unit in October who had never had a careplan filled out. How have we been taking care of him? Because this is now my problem to fix it took and entire week to put everything in order. I really had to move my but when I got word that one of the residents was being transferred to another floor. Like hell I was going to send her chart off looking like that! Anyway I let my boss know exactly what was missing and precicely how many hours of work it took to get everything fixed up and who was responsible for the discrepancies in the first place.

What bugs me is that this is the way my boss has of fixing problems. If she doesn't like the was something is being done. she just delegates it to someone else instead of getting to the root of the problem (ie the person whom it is obvious is not doing the job). Thanks for letting me vent I've been doing a lot of that tonight.:( :( :angryfire

Okay - if i came to work and I was feeling "whoozie" or "bugged out" I would let my people know. So, i would become annoyed if someone was pms-ing or hot flashing on me. I remember my mom when she flashed, and she used to get mean with me. If a co-worker got that way it wouldn't be fair. I don't want anyone to bug out on me :-(

I hate it when people leave our lounge a mess. Which is practically all the time and nearly everybody is guilty. I ESPECIALLY hate coming on @ 0700 to find that nights had a potluck and lft all the salsa and chips out. Nothing grosses me out more. With the possible exception of when I catch co-workers eating stuff that has been sitting out for hours!!

My BIG pet peeve is our unit clerk-less then a high school education and old enough to be my mother-one speed(slow) and one way of doing things(hers) and an opinion on everything.-and never moves from that desk...Tattles on the cna's(she was one for a hundred yrs and perfect at it) I made the mistake of really counting on her for guidance when I was new to the unit and I made a mistake-I allowed myself to be misled(on purpose? who knows) I respected her and relied on her and have come to realize that she probably set me up to fail and I put too much trust in her--and lately I have answered her back a few times and now I must be on her sh*t list...She has the power to make my day miserable...and has been at this facility forever and will only leave when she is carried out in a bodybag....I HAVE to just deal-as have many ,many nurses before me....nothing will ever change....I am watching her though and will speak with her in private if need be....She pulled one on me today-we knew we were getting a hospital return-I was in charge---she ALWAYS has the paperwork ready to go.....Not for me-not today...and offered some lame excuse...a few other things happened-seems every time I asked her a question I got " I don't know" Believe me-she ALWAYS knows......You would not believe HER filing system-it's like nothing I have ever seen-NOT alphabetical either....Well-I hate tension....I have to just blow it off -not worth wasting my energy on.It is a shame though-I have tried to be respectful and am not really sure when exactly we began to antagonize one another but I feel as though she has been picking at me til my ankles bled (for weeks I kept my mouth shut but left out of there frustrated and upset almost daily).. It really is apparent-it sounds childish but you know when a co-worker has no time for you....(pics of the grandkids shown to one and all today-just not me---asking a co-worker how her weeks vacation was-I was off for a week and a half sick...not one "are you ok? I think some psst psst went on while I was out.....SHEESH!!! I sound so paranoid and childish...Reading back over this I see that I am really bothered by it all....Honestly though she really does act as if she runs the floor-the temp at the desk, the music for the residents-all her decisions....Batten down the hatches if she is having a hot flash cause the fan is going to blow all of your paperwork off of the desk-and you better put on a sweater....(I need to GROW up....I am over 40 and she is almost 70....

What really burns my buns is working with someone who is on light duty, but really doesn't need to be and management kisses her a$$.

Hate when coworkers constantly complain about their assignment and what they are NOT going to do.

Ticks me off when an order is taken off and someone needs vs q shift or a U/A or C&S and no one mentions it, or a stat order for U/A, C&S written at 10am and no one bothered to get it until I arrive at midnight.

Really, really ticks me off when I hear that so n so's breakfast tray is untouched after two hours because no one wants to feed him/her and the kitchen takes it away so then they never got to eat until maybe lunchtime.

I could go on and on, but then everyone would be annoyed with me!

HAVE A NICE DAY EVERYONE!

:)

I work with two nurses that turn pts together. They will call from a room and ask that I bring some diapers etc.I'll drop whatever I'm doing and go.They will be standing @ the bedside doing absolutely nothing!!

This really ticks me off!!

If I get at bedside and need something,I simply go get it!!

Compared to some of the above mentioned, my peeve sounds miniscule, but I need some kindhearted advice. I have recently been trained as charge at at LTC unit. Since I work P/T, and this other LPN works P/T, they schedule us together consistently. She has been there quite a long time and it is difficult for her to make changes that have been of late, like better pain control. She looked at the MAR and made a big deal of giving a prn pain med that was q1 hour (terminal care) and also qid. No one in two weeks had given it prn and she made a really big deal about not wanting to be the "nurse that medicates". No, her eyes get really big and she talks loud and won't let it go. I told her that the med was ordered and she was acting under the nurse practice act and so what? It was patient care that was important, not what others supposedly thought, and no one would think that anyway!

Whenever I get really busy, she tries to help but ends up getting me all confused over little details - like someone said-it is the high strung ones! I have no problem with her when we can talk about her cats, her new wallpaper, etc, but when things get crazy or you are in a gray area, she gets really unstable. I sent her to make copies on night while I gave report and she really did not know how to make copies or try to figure it out with my guidance. (enter code and push start). She once stated that the DON once called her an Lpeon. I was agast until I noted that she "hides" behind her LPN status when she doesn't want to do something-or state her opinion to an MD , like when we were trying to get increased pain control for a long time resident- she pleaded "I keep my mouth shut", and the MD would not order anything. ( I later got it.) I would never ask her to so something outside her scope of practice.

She is a good nurse, its just that she gets on my nerves and I need some suggestions on what I can do to cope, please?

howdy yall

from deep in the heart of texas

Ive made a new goal for myself. This comes from the realization that I am responsible for myself and no one else. There fore Im not going to let anyone one irritate me not even that gum snapping bovine bleached blonde that alledgedly works with me at times. She and no one else are going to disturb my harmony. And when I need to tune them out I start humming old Johnny Cash Tunes, works every time. I fell into the burning ring of fire.

I also get very annoyed with people who will not take responsibility for their own actions. We have one nurse who is especially good at finding someone else to blame all of his problems on, in his personal life as well as at work. I'm also tired of hearing about all of the terrible things his ex-wife did to him. If he was as much of a whiner at home as he is at work, I would have left him too. He is another one of those who spends most of his time complaining about how much work he has to do , and how he always gets the worst assignments. If he spent half as much energy doing his work as he puts into complaining about his work, he would get done in half the time.

We have a couple people who will not stay an extra ten minutes beyond the end of their shift, no matter what is going on with the patients. When my patient crashes at shift change, I stay long enough to help the on coming nurse get the patient stabilized, whether it takes ten minutes or an hour. We actualy had a nurse want to leave in the middle of a code once because her shift was over. We all want to get home to our families, but when I am at work, my patients are my priority, and that responsibility does not end because it is 7:15.
