Weird habits you've picked up since starting Nursing school

A few of mine:

Checking the expiration date on EVERYTHING.

Evaluating everyone I meet for IV placement.

Laying out every utensil I need before cooking.

Watching every person I see with a cane to make sure they're using it correctly.

Mine would definately be ... thinking I need to memorize everything I read. It doesn't matter what is it. I could just be reading the newspaper or a magazine or just watching something on T.V., I find myself trying memorize it and I hate doing that :smackingf . LOL

Telling my family about all the germs there are out there.

I agree with the cane thing.

There was this guy I saw using crutches going down the stairs dangerously. I saw him do this two weeks in a row and I kept imagining him falling down headfirst. I wanted to run after him to yell at him, but I couldn't run (recently tore my ACL) and my friend wouldn't let me.

Washing my hands in public places, and then getting the paper towels and turning off the faucet and opening the door without touching the handles....been doing that one for years!!

:yeahthat:

I've gotten just AWFUL!! My daughter was telling my 5-y/o granddaughter to "go make me a sandwich" with the deli meat I had just bought. I had just made cookies w/her the day before and watched her play with her hair, rub her face, wipe her nose, etc. q2min and had her wash her hands as often afterwards. I told said goofy daughter that she would NOT send that child up to "play" with my lunchmeats w/o supervision, lol....

I hate public restrooms, hotel rooms, and surfaces I have to touch in public, lol....it's kinda' sad....

I am constantly looking at ankles while I am in public for signs of edema, looking at the lower arms for line infiltration, I check the labels on EVERYTHING.. I am constantly washing my hands. I don't believe anything anyone tells me unless they present proof with Impiracle evidence!

My oddest hospital habit has to be eating my sandwhiches with a fork and knife. I just cant seem to TOUCH anything that I am going to eat after I have been with a patient, even though I know I have washed my hands 40-60 times that day!

I do this one too! My family just looks at me funny when the witness me leaving a bathroom holding a paper towel on the door handle. Mom thinks I am becoming a germaphobe.. Little does she know what we see in the hospital! Darn right I am a germaphobe! :lol2:

Oh, ROTFLMAO!! That's me, too!! The hot wings smell good, the hamburgers and french fries are tempting, but I'm looking for the food item that does NOT require eating with my hands!!

I do that now, and I'm not a nurse! I've just watched too many shows where they've done germ tests to shows how many germs are on door knobs, seats, foods, etc...eww!

Whenever I'm cleaning or going from one room to the next I always make sure I have everything...so I don't have to keep making trips back and forth!! Sometimes it can get a bit outa hand... I think all nurses are a little OCD... :) ??
