wearing makeup to work?

I am still in nursing school and I usually always wear makeup when I'm out most of the time like a "full face of makeup" not like a clown or anything weird and over the top haha but I usually always wear foundation, concelar, eye liner, mascara, a little bronzer niti have always thought it would be kind of pointless to wake up every day or everyother day (whatever my work schedule will be) and put on a full face of makeup when I'm going to be running around a hospital all day, helping people to the bathroom, giving baths, doing charts, giving meds etc. but I still feel like when I'm a nurse I dont want to look like a total bum either like I just rolled outa bed with no makeup on (because that is never a good look when I'm pale because I havent tanned or I'm beyond tird that day). I know I am not going to want to put on a ton of makeup everyday when its just going to rub off , sweat off etc.

I just dont want to look sloppy infront of patients, their familys, other co workers, or bosses.

Do you wear makeup to work as a nurse?

If so, what do you wear to keep it simple?

Do you think its silly to put makeup on in this type of profession when we are just running around non stop?

Also, how do you make yourself look put together when it comes to usually always havng your hair up a lot of the time?

Since nursing, I have switched to a tinted moisturizer instead of foundation. It feels much lighter and is better for your skin I think. It doesn't hide trouble spots as well, but it does give a more even and healthy glow to face that lasts longer in my opinion.

It probably takes me 10-15 minutes to do my hair and make-up for work. I feel more confidant if I put that extra time in my appearance. I have short, naturally straight hair so I just apply some mousse and blow-dry it. I go very natural for make-up. Lipstick doesn't work well for me so I just use chapstick all the time. Tinted lip balm works too.

:lol2:Hello. I personally wear my make up to work, just about everyday. When I don't, my residents & families ask if I am ill. I have never been one to wear foundation, only because it makes my face itch. I love my eyeshadow, mascara, and a little eyeliner & always putting on my chapstick! I don't wear lipstick to work, cuz I am a constant water drinker!! I agree with the idea we should look fresh and nice. Personally, it makes me feel better and I smile more! As for my hair it is mid back length. I wear it up because I don't think my residents would like it falling onto them.

I always wear make-up when I go to work. It is part of looking professional.

When I was a young nurse, and working the night shift, I had a patient that complimented me on wearing make-up during the night shift. He commented that so many didn't bother with it. I'm no raving beauty, but it does give me a personal boost to ensure I look my best. And if I feel I am putting my best foot (or face) forward, it will reflect in my work.

For me, it didn't matter what the time of day (or night) it was; this was my "working time."

I always wear make up and have my hair done and keep my lipstick fresh. I have had many patients tell me I make them feel better just walking in the room.I iron my clothes, too.:o

Looking good is a morale boost.

I always wear the full makeup applied with a light hand.

I don't think my day is so strenuous that I sweat off my makeup. I rarely break a sweat at all since the secretary who controls the heat likes a cool unit.

A tinted lip balm or lip gloss in my pocket keeps the lips cute all day.

I do not walk out of my house without the barn painted, period.

I shudder to think what people would think of my pale lashes, pale face, and no lipstick.

I think I need to run and hide!

I used to just do moisturizer, powder and maybe some mascara. Then I saw a picture of myself and realized that now as I'm inching towards the mid-30's I can't get away with that like I could in my 20's! :uhoh3:

I now do a light foundation, brightening concealer under my eyes and any blemishes (wrinkles AND acne...so unfair), blush because I find it really wakes my face up, mascara and chapstick. It is a very natural look and hard to tell if I'm wearing makeup or not, but it is a much more put-together look.

As far as hair, I'm a school nurse so wearing my hair up is not as big a deal as it was in the hospital, but I still usually wear it up just for comfort. I have long, thick, wavy hair so to keep it looking neat I usually wear it in a low bun, secured with a clip or elastic band. Sometimes I wear a ponytail, but with my unruly hair it often ends up looking messy and I don't have time to straighten it in the mornings. Today was an unusually good hair day so I have it down, but I will probably put it in a bun before the day is over :)

LOVE LOVE LOVE makeup. Always have and always will wear it. Of course, I don't plan on being dolled up like I am for a night out on the town, but the basics, absolutely. Tinted moisturizer/foundation, concealor, BLUSH, lipstick/gloss, etc. I don't have a problem with anyone who doesn't wear makeup and I relate to people who do. It makes me feel great. While I was in labor with my son, 5 months ago, after I got my epidural, I finished putting my makeup on. The sweet nurse told me I looked pretty and I told her the same. She wore makeup too and we both agreed how its not much but makes you feel so much better.

Not to mention, the first thing people see is YOU. If you are blessed to have the baby smooth skin, get plenty of sleep and not have tired dark eyes, good for you. But I'm a girly girly girl til I die and I need makeup if nothing but to put people at ease when they see me and know I got plenty of rest and can take care of them. Even if I didn't get that much sleep.....

I will miss perfume though. What are policies on perfume, lotions, etc.

I always wear makeup when I am at the workplace. I cannot recall a single day where I haven't worn makeup while at work.

I am a black female who suffers from post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, which means that my scars tend to heal significantly darker than my complexion. People tend to treat me better and receive me more positively when I am wearing foundation on my face. On the other hand, people tend to scowl or stare when I am wearing no makeup.

Full face, everyday at work and any day I am going to be out and about for more than a few hours. It's very understated, though; very natural/light eye makeup (well-blended!), foundation, light blush, and powder. Except lipstick. I don't really need it, I don't like how quickly it wears off, and I never have time to reapply it. For days where I don't have to maintain my makeup all day, I love tinted moisturizer. It just doesn't last all day on my oily skin.

For those of you with oily skin or need a long-lasting foundation, primer is your best friend. I love primers. My favorites are Smashbox's Light primer and the Dr. Brandt Anti-Aging Mattifying primer. After that, I use either Lancome Teint Idole 14-hour foundation or the Make Up Forever Mat Velvet.

I love Sephora. :)

Appearance is part of projecting a professional image, so you're wise to consider what's realistic while still being attractive. I wear a little makeup to work, about the same as I would apply on my casual days off. Light foundation, mascara, a little nude eye shadow, lip gloss/tinted lip balm and occasionally blush are my go-to items. I especially enjoy the tinted lip balm because you can apply it without a mirror, it doesn't feel heavy like lipstick, but gives your face some color- which is big at 4 am. Just take care to not go too crazy with the makeup/fragrance- some women (younger and older alike) do not know "when to say when". You're at work, not a fashion show.
