I notice a recurring theme here at allnurses. 'I worked my butt off to get into school!', 'I deliver compassionate care to patients, working long hours.', 'I am unappreciated by entitled families and ruthless administrators!'. There is a tone of victimhood in these statements. These are martyrs on the altar of an evil, uncaring healthcare system.

Then the poster goes on explain how they were 1 point under the minimum grade point average requirements, or they were disciplined by their employer. How could this happen when they worked so hard! It's so unjust!

I don't think studying hard to get through school and then showing up on time to work, and doing the job you were hired for, is enough to qualify for sainthood...

People seem to think that "passion" is a good substitute for knowledge and ability ...or that it was "God's glorious plan" for them to fail NCLEX 12 times.

I agree just doing the job you willingly, knowingly, went to school for, whether nurse, firefighter, police officer, even joining the military, doesn't make you a saint.

My husband is a Marine in case someone thinks military service does imply sainthood.

I remember a scene from "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation" where Clark Griswold gets frustrated trying to get the Christmas lights to work, and his daughter says, "You worked really hard, Daddy." Whereupon his father-in-law deadpans, "So do washing machines."

Working hard is expected. It doesn't merit a participation trophy. Nurses have no choice but to work hard---it's a difficult job at best, or at least it is if you're doing it right. You don't get a gold star just for showing up!

Now come on, I worked hard to get into nursing school, worked hard in nursing school, I passed NCLEX, and have delivered very compassionate care.

I graduated with honors, passed nclex first try in 75, and have never been disciplined at work. That doesn't qualify???? Lol

I do have 3 young boys and a husband. Does that qualify me?? I feel like that should more than being a nurse. Even my dog is a boy!!

Send me some estrogen, quick or I demand sainthood!!!

Didn't you get the memo Emergent? Just read some of the responses in the thread about the fed up, irritated ER Dr; she wasn't a coddling Saint (gently wiping the furrowed brow) and therefore must be crucified on the alter of medicine.

Who needs critical thinking skills when you have passion? Doesn't the fervour of my emoting tell you I am an exemplary person? I demonstrate my compassion by pointing out that you have none. Oh, yeah and I show up on time and work hard.

Can I get canonized now, please?
