Well I put up a good fight but I give in I am going to quite ! I am not going to recount all the details but due it all hit the fan today :crying2: Two weeks or so ago I was in an car wreck on the my way to work I hurt my shoulder and ended up with disks pressing on my spinel cord causing me to lose some felling in my hands and legs .

I work on the 2nd floor and my office has no elevator so yesterday after almost killing my self on the step trying to more or less craw up them at this point it I had had anuff and told my boss it was hard for me to walk up the steps . today I was called down to HR and told that they where going to fire me today for messing up ( due to a medical problem I have control of ) but because they "love me" they are going to give me a job down stairs :yeah: sounds good right ? the problem is I have to take a pay cut ,I am also being made to work 40 hours when I olney work 32 now and I have to be there at 7:00 am (i have no ride at this time ) I also am NOT soppiest to lift anything heavy ,use my bad arm ,or stand up for to long ! I am in quite a lot of pain and the idea of having to be up for 8plus hours a day is killing me . they also told me I was in bad standing and would never be rehired ? and they cut off my health care with 4 days notes  thank god I have medicare as a backup .

well thats my vent ,please not cracks on the spelling today :)I always said I would go back to school if I lost my job but how in the world am i going to do that now ??

ONe thing I learned.....don't count on the long term disability for your employer:uhoh3:.

It goes when you go....:smokin:

I've got mine ;)

But I have heard horror stories.

So, Onradar, since you know so much, you surely know where the OP lives, and that there is a bus route right past their house, directly (or with few stops) to their place of employment.

No one ever lives anywhere that is not on a bus route, or in a town that does not have strong public transportation, ever. People dont live outside of cities, where there is no such this as a bus, let alone a 5 dollar bus ride....

As xtxrn said.... dude...

If I could get back and forth to work on a bus, I certainly would take advantage of the privilege. We can't do what is not possible.

I think that we have all been duly informed that Trek is not a nurse. Can we dispense with this 'she is NOT a nurse!' newsflash now?

Trek has had countless heartbreaks in succession. Her dream was to become a nurse. Her stamina and her perseverance to simply function in the workforce is a testament to the power of mind over body. She does what she must in order to continue to work and remain productive, sometimes at a high financial cost to her. She refuses to let her disabilities relegate her to a life of isolation. She has always had a soft spot in my heart, and I will be the first to admit that I want to protect her from nasty posts.

But Trek, being the resilient woman she has proven herself to be, does not need my protection. She is not a withering fragile flower. I only hope that I can have the strength of soul that she possesses.

So Trek is not a nurse. She WANTS to be a nurse, but recognizes her limitations. Where is the harm in letting her vent? Ask questions? Have a different perspective? Gain some knowledge? Just want a compassionate ear to listen?

It is incredible, truly amazing that a woman such as Trek has the wherewithal to hang on to her dream. Is there a reason to continually remind her that she has limitations physically? What is the point of doing so?

Forgive me, I am guilty of doing the 'protective' thing again. It irks me that posters make snide comments to Trek without knowing her challenges. I suppose that I should not get so riled up, because if a poster doesn't look at her hx, they couldn't possibly know.

OK, I am done being a mother hen now.

Trek, my dear one, I only wish the best for you. You have been down this path before, and your doc has supported you. Ask your doc for some advice in this situation. See what you can work out with HR.

Many of us continue to hold your heart in our hands and will never lose sight of what an inspiration you have been simply from your endurance and 'never give up' attitude. I am definitely a member of your fan club, sweetheart. :)

I think there might be a bit less confusion if this was posted in one of the more "general life whatever" type forums instead of in the "general nursing forum" since NOTHING about this particular topic is at all related to nursing.

And I think we have to be a bit forgiving of those confused thinking that OP is a nurse. After all, if I posted someplace called "twilight fans dot com," people would probably think I was a fan of ridiculous novels about wolves and vampires. AN may not be restricted to nurses only, but it can't be surprising that people might think they're interacting with nurses on a site called "allnurses."

What she said:yeah::yeah:

Okay, pardon me for stating something that's been bugging me since the beginning of this thread. Is Trek a government employee? Because it's next to impossible to be fired IME. What else is going on?

And I wish her luck, I just don't get it.

Sorry you're going through so much at this time! I would think your employer would need to meet the doctors orders, but that may not matter if you've already quit. Perhaps you could look into your rights to see if they've been violated. I wish you the best and please keep us posted. Hugs to you.

I believe she's employed by a government contractor.

I also believe it very likely that her employer used employing her (as disabled person) to get points or perks on their contract and no longer have a 'use' for her.

I sincerly hope she is able to access the resourses to hold her employer accountable for their actions.

You are probably right about this. Sad, isn't it? I, also, hope for the best for Trek. God bless her for trying to work and be a productive member of society.

Truly not wanting to make fun of OP and recognize that eyesight is an issue, but I just cannot figure out what "coriander" should have been!

I giggled a bit, maybe botany as an alternative profession. :)
