Published

Well I put up a good fight but I give in I am going to quite ! I am not going to recount all the details but due it all hit the fan today :crying2: Two weeks or so ago I was in an car wreck on the my way to work I hurt my shoulder and ended up with disks pressing on my spinel cord causing me to lose some felling in my hands and legs .

I work on the 2nd floor and my office has no elevator so yesterday after almost killing my self on the step trying to more or less craw up them at this point it I had had anuff and told my boss it was hard for me to walk up the steps . today I was called down to HR and told that they where going to fire me today for messing up ( due to a medical problem I have control of ) but because they "love me" they are going to give me a job down stairs :yeah: sounds good right ? the problem is I have to take a pay cut ,I am also being made to work 40 hours when I olney work 32 now and I have to be there at 7:00 am (i have no ride at this time ) I also am NOT soppiest to lift anything heavy ,use my bad arm ,or stand up for to long ! I am in quite a lot of pain and the idea of having to be up for 8plus hours a day is killing me . they also told me I was in bad standing and would never be rehired ? and they cut off my health care with 4 days notes  thank god I have medicare as a backup .

well thats my vent ,please not cracks on the spelling today :)I always said I would go back to school if I lost my job but how in the world am i going to do that now ??

Never mind nurse compassion. How about just a fellow traveler having compassion? The OP sounds half dead.

Sorry, she just sounds really badly off and she is playing right into her boss' hands by quitting and by not getting a lawyer to jump on the boss' head and go "cock a doodle do" (to quote from a great movie I once saw).

I hope the poster you quoted gets a taste of real life soon so her eyes will open.

Was it "JFK"?

Did the OP really write that maybe if she brought a dr's note saying to restore her position, her benefits and hours it might help????

Really?

Ok... definitely not a nurse. Don't understand why she's posting this issue on this forum since it isn't nurse related.

but....if the op thinks that her dr would even write such a note...well...I think I'll just sit here and shake my head and wonder what planet this chic is from.

SSI is disability too. It's for the poor and those that didn't put enough work time into Social Security to collect SSDI. They are both disability. Anyway, you're really pushing the tax payer to demand SSDI, Medicare, AND a job with Benefits. You're on the border there and I think you're crossing a line, personally. I think greed is the order of the day in consideration of claiming double benefits and paychecks. I can't believe the taxpayer tolerates you doing that. They shouldn't have too!

I haven't read the whole post but I have to intervene. There are limits to what work you can do but even on SSDI you may work to a certain amount. If you are unclear of your facts it is usually better to not comment. Your however are on the border when commenting about working and SSI or SSDI as the amount you get paid is at or below the poverty level. After contributing to SSI,SSDI,SS for 32 years I continue to fight for what is owed to me and what they would pay me for working my butt off for 32 years is a sham.... Medicare allows supplemental insurance for coverage as medicare doesn't cover all expenses and doesn't cover prescriptions.

Instead of berating Trek you should be applauding her ambition, drive, and stamina to remain in the productive work force especially when faced with adversity and prejudice! And shame on the government for not accomodating Trek.

Trek don't quit......get a lawyer. Make them give you reasonable accomodation. File a complaint ((hugs))

Legally blind? Who's legally blind?

Trek is not a nurse, but she would like to be, and has many health problems. Many of us have come to like Trek very much and we will try to protect her whenever possible. If Trek wishes to tell you her health issues then it is up to her....but she tries hard to remain in the productive work force and should be congratulated for her effort....besides trust me SSI/SSDI income stinks.

I mean this in the kindest of ways....I hope you never have to rely on the income provided because it's pennies on the bucket..... Peace.

Esme,

I just wanted to say THANK YOU....you are always so helpful, compassionate and informative. You listen and respond with constructive criticism when other posters are bashing (not this case...I'm speaking in general now)... you take time to research topics and post information for everyone..regardless of the topic...you are simply The GREATEST!

I always enjoy your posts and think to myself..."how did she know that?"....again, KUDOS and MANY MANY THANKS! :redbeathe

I think there are a lot of people here who think nothing bad could ever happen to them; that they could never need accommodation in their job.

You know, OCN, you are right!

I probably thought that way too at some point...now, after bilateral hip and bilateral knee replacements...I am pretty close to disabled...still working but could see how it could all go "south"....so you make a good point....

and the trauma people certainly have seen some really bad results where in the blink of an eye someone is disabled for life.....so there you are.....

It's the old adage..."there but for the grace of God...."

I never really thought that way, mostly because I am a pessimist by nature. Now that I am dealing with a serious illness, it has become my reality.

Wondering out loud:

Why can't 'some' posters just concentrate on the message versus the delivery of said message?

As long as the point is conveyed, nothing else should matter.

How true about supplemental insurance, part B, and drug coverage. For me (also on disability) it's roughly 450.00 per month. Out of pocket. Medicare's reimbursement to the docs/providers is horrendously low- and with more cuts coming, I'm anticipating having docs refuse to see Medicare patients. Mayo Clinic did it years ago. I had different coverage last year when I was in the hospital for 6 weeks. After the advantage plan I had then, I still owed thousands. And a prescription for a drug that cost 100K a year - so my part was over 400/month WITH Medicare drug coverage (a social worker found a better one....it pays a LOT to shop around).

Before I ended up on disability, I always got the disability insurance- after seeing so many MVAs, degenerative disorders, etc, I wanted to be covered. That 20-30 bucks/pay check is the difference between being able to get those supplemental/drug insurances or not. And, you have to make WAY less than disability to qualify for "full" Medicaid. My monthly "deductible" (called a spend down) is more than 2200/month.....I wouldn't have enough for just rent, let alone the supplements, utilities, etc.

If you have disability insurance (long and short term) available, I can't stress enough how important they are; nobody plans on needing them. But if you do, it's THE difference between making it with a bit of quality of life, or NOT. :o

I'm not able to work at all (since 2004). I give Trek a lot of credit for fighting tooth and nail to KEEP working. OK- so she can't see the keyboard that well (she's posted about her vision). But she's going through a lot to keep working when she could probably just call the doc, and get total disability, and not even try.

FWIW. :twocents:

Thank you and you're welcome!:redbeathe

I have amazing parents.....well had......my Dad died a couple of years (:crying2:miss you Dad) ago and he was a brilliant man. My Mom is my best friend. I've had an amazing career. I have seen and experienced so many amazing things. I have been surrounded by so many brilliant people who shared their knowledge and experience. I personally have had to experience the agony and heartbreak of a profession that turns on you when you are no longer of use to them. I'm a middle child and like to make peace....:lol2:. I have always tried to walk a mile in someone else's shoes instead of judge. I make it a mission not just to hear but to listen and I always made the staff do the same. But I'll call a spade a spade and I don't molly coddle....you can criticize without being critical and cruel and I try to never say anything that will come back to haunt me and I'll admit when I'm wrong. Never call the kettle black....:smokin:

I firmly believe in karma....There but for the Grace go I.........;)
