VENT ! Well they won !I am quiting

Published

Well I put up a good fight but I give in I am going to quite ! I am not going to recount all the details but due it all hit the fan today :crying2: Two weeks or so ago I was in an car wreck on the my way to work I hurt my shoulder and ended up with disks pressing on my spinel cord causing me to lose some felling in my hands and legs .

I work on the 2nd floor and my office has no elevator so yesterday after almost killing my self on the step trying to more or less craw up them at this point it I had had anuff and told my boss it was hard for me to walk up the steps . today I was called down to HR and told that they where going to fire me today for messing up ( due to a medical problem I have control of ) but because they "love me" they are going to give me a job down stairs :yeah: sounds good right ? the problem is I have to take a pay cut ,I am also being made to work 40 hours when I olney work 32 now and I have to be there at 7:00 am (i have no ride at this time ) I also am NOT soppiest to lift anything heavy ,use my bad arm ,or stand up for to long ! I am in quite a lot of pain and the idea of having to be up for 8plus hours a day is killing me . they also told me I was in bad standing and would never be rehired ? and they cut off my health care with 4 days notes  thank god I have medicare as a backup .

well thats my vent ,please not cracks on the spelling today :)I always said I would go back to school if I lost my job but how in the world am i going to do that now ??

How is it you have been fired so much?

LOL...I was not going to be the one to open that door, but since you did, I have a comment to add. I love when I have patient family members who tell me how to do my job because they either have read it on the internet or watched too many television shows. Just because you read about it or seen a television show does not make you an RN! Just because the poster has been on unemployment multiple times does not make the person a subject matter expert. It was mentioned how the OP will be a burden on taxpayers...if the person extended his/her unemployment during the extension periods afforded by the federal government, he/she was also a tax burden.

I seriously cannot believe how judgmental a person can be...

Shoot- one town I lived in had no bus, and only one taxi...as in one car- :D

It was a pale yellow station wagon with no logo. The hours were: "when he answers the phone" :yeah:

:lol2::lol2::lol2::lol2: there is no bus where I live , I pay someone to drive me . In order to make it to work at the the new I would have to 1St take a cab into town at 4:00am then get on a van to come back the same way out of town it would take 1 1/2 hours for what is a 20min drive and cost me $20-30 one way .

DO NOT QUIT

First off...the VA is unionized, even if you are not a member they HAVE to help you. Utilize the union.

Second...consider filing FMLA, you can use sick leave, vacation time or LWOP (leave without pay) until this is sorted out.

Third...consider filing an EEO complaint, but DO NOT do this at your VA, do it at a different VA. The VA system is notorious for "losing" paperwork. If you do it a VA that is outside, so to speak, it will truly be an objective process.

Good luck.

I do orders for the VA and gov. and mil. and more or less 90 % of the stuff on a base but I do not work at a VA hospital (all though come to think of it I may be able to put in A call or two to some of my contacts ) think more of sub contract .

I can not get FMLA tell dec. at least . and they will not give me LWOP what is EEO ?

I have looked at your past posts. I understand that you are legally blind and spell check might or might not work for you but you seem to have more syntax, misspellings, and grammatical errors than typos.

I am not sure what "Doing orders" might entail but surely you have to be able to read and write.

There was a past issue with a "coworker talking about me behind my back."

You say you cannot climb the stairs as the result of the auto accident but also have peripheral neuropathy in your feet and legs.

You say you "want to be a nurse someday" but are unable to write a short post here without multiple errors every time. What sort of nursing do you expect to be able to do?

Might be time for some inward reflection.

I can read (thanks ) but have trouble wrighting and I have worked with every VA in the use and and mil bases all over the world

and my spelling has never been a problem . I do want to go back to school to be a nurse and there are others here with disabilities as well .

I am trying to find a good fit for me and others here have given me grate ideas like a pt tech or coriander . well at least I have time to go back to school now . Ok maybe there is no way in hell I will every be nurse but maybe I can come close my dream job would be case mag. . I enjoy talking with sever people here I think I would have long sence lost my mine at this point with out them .

Okay, I have not read the all the posts, just the first two pages.

If you have a disability (like me) and your employer has made changes to accomodate that, which you state they have, then you need to accept that if you want to work.

No, it's not fair, I understand but that is life. I cant get a permanent position due to my disability in an area I would like. if i want a permanent job, I need to take one that does not involve night duty. So i chose to work casual so i can work on wards still. When i am ready i will consider the other areas that dont require night duty.

Sometimes you have to accept what is offered and not expect to be accomodated 100% because of a disability. It's not fair on your colleagues either.

coriander?

I know!:lol2:

Truly not wanting to make fun of OP and recognize that eyesight is an issue, but I just cannot figure out what "coriander" should have been!

 I am so sorry that you are dealing with this, Trek. You have had so many challenges thrown in your path over the past few years, and your resilience continues to inspire me.

I can only offer you hugs, because any words would seem trite.

After reading these last few pages, I'm going to interject here and say that I've found many of these replies to be extremely rude, condescending, and just plain mean to the OP, who if anyone would take the time to look at their previous posts, would see this is a person struggling with a profound disability on top of other challenges. They come here looking for advice and hope to enter the nursing field in spite of it all, and get slammed. I am appalled. Nuff said on that.

To the OP, I'm sorry for what happened to you, and I encourage you to continue on with your goals and wish you well. :nurse:

Wow! You are very cold hearted! Where is your compassion and this for a fellow coworker! I don't get these unkind comments from fellow nurses, isn't compassion supposed to be one of the qualities of a good nurse?

I don't think Trekfan is a nurse. Not that that means we shouldn't be compassionate to others.

OP, I am very sorry for everything that you're going through. It sounds like a very tough situation and I hope it improves soon for you.

That being said, I'm confused as why you post here? I know you want to be a nurse, but quite frankly you have a ways to go before you get there. We can't get medical advice, and going back through your posts, many have bordered on asking medical advice. Further, very few of us can relate to the situations you're in, and therefore can't offer much advice.

Perhaps you would be able to find a board for people with disabilities and find it more productive to post there?

My thoughts as well. If the OP were posting about pursuing nursing, that would be one thing, but most of the posts are as you describe.

I agree that a site that focuses on disabilities might be more beneficial.

they accommodated your condition & you refused. any unemployment should be ruined & you deserve it!

That's pretty cold-hearted. How is a cut in pay and a change of working hours "accommodating"?
