100% Vaccination compliance and classroom first aid kits

Published

I hate both of these.

While, when it is all said and done, all 3 of my campuses WILL BE 100% compliant on the vaccination forefront, I still despise having to chase them down. Really guys. Vaccinations for school participation IS NOT A NEW THING. Get your stuff together

Also, how many of you make individual first aid "kits" for EVERY SINGLE TEACHER? The nurse before me did this when our school was much smaller (I'm talking like 60 teachers for all 3 of our campuses). But, we're growing pretty rapidly and they are still expecting me to do this every year. I simply don't have the supplies, time, nor desire to continue this as our school continues to grow. Expectations are stupid!

Ok. Rant over. I'm clearly feeling underappreciated and overwhelmed right now with my tasks at hand! HA! I hope everyone else is having a good Tuesday!!

I send a baggie of bandaids and pair of gloves. In the winter I sent a tube a vaseline and some cotton swabs. If they want anything more than that, they can do it themselves. But I only have 19 homeroom teachers, so while time consuming, it's not awful.

Immunization paperwork is the bane of my existence this year!

My teachers expect a gallon sized baggie with band aids (anything less than 20 gets scoffs :sarcastic: ), mask, gloves, paper towels, and gauze. And I have to make at least 30 of them per campus, so approximately 90 bags. Ain't nobody got time for that! Especially when I'm trying to get vaccination records back and hearing/vision/spinal screenings planned. All in 19.5 hours/week! And YES!!! to your immunization paperwork comment. Normally it doesn't bother me but this year seems to be AWFUL. Bleh. Oh well. Let me go put my super cape on and get it done, because THAT'S JUST WHAT WE DO!

Sounds like a child labor project. My school has no problem using the students for jobs like this. Twice a week we have a 30 minute cleaning period.

I hit 100% compliance in my school TODAY!!!

As for the teachers, Meh.

They can come down and ask.

Far, I am in awe. Just awe. I worked on my compliance list this morning and even after consulting my state's database I still have strides to make. Getting there, though.

As for first aid kits...I put a small one in each classroom. It contains Gloves (2), Bandaids of assorted size (~50 total),Cleansing wipes (~10), Gauze of assorted sizes (~10 total), Pads (2), Tampon (2), Ice pack (1). It is up to the teacher to notify it they need it restocked. And no, it does not stop teachers from still sending students to my office for bandaid to cover a papercut.

I'm in compliance (meeting the rules) but I have 11 kids with Religious exemptions

No, I have help. The senior nurse in my district has the easiest school and also lives here. She knows the families well and since she works summer school, she helps the nurse in the little school and me out.

I'd be LOST without her.

I'm in awe. Of her.

I have 2 kinders (twins) and 1 6th grader left to get vaccinated - out of 650 kids. What is that percentage? I don't want to math today....

I don't make first aid kits but I will supply items for them. When I started most teachers had some sort of jar/drawer thing that they kept stuff in. They send down their students when they need bandaids and I restock them. I did make one big first aid baggie and hung it by the recess door for outside boo-boos that aren't nurse worthy. My office moved this summer and its WAY on the other side of the recess door, so this makes it easier so staff don't have to leave recess supervision to walk the little ones over to me.

Well that's a genius idea. I'd be willing to bet some of my older after school kiddos could knock them out in a day! Thanks Mr.!!

WOOT WOOT! Get it! I have I do believe 5 that are missing. And they already have their "get them here by this date or your kid can't come to school" letters. So I expect them any day now!
