UC Davis New Grad Residency Fall 2020

Published

Is anyone planning on applying? Application period opens up April 29th. I am curious how it will work out with unit placement when so many programs in CA did not get to finish their preceptorships.

My application status changed from "application received" to "application under review" as of today. Not sure when it switched because I haven't checked for a few days, but just wanted to let everyone know they might finally be getting around to these apps.

Mine says under review too thank you for the info!

Hi @green.tea Did you also ask for med/surg/onc in your cover letter? Or were you applying to a different unit?

They will go off of where you did your preceptorship but mine was cut short due to Covid and my preceptorship was not on on my first choice unit. I expressed interest in my desired unit in hopes they wouldn't care I didn't do my preceptorship there. I have prior experience and volunteer in a birth center so I made sure to point all that out along with my applicable certifications.

Oh OK thank you! I did my preceptorship in a adult ICU because our school does not give out pediatric or maternity placements for preceptorship. I’m hoping it’s under review by a unit related to women’s health because that’s what I requested in my cover letter, but I’m not sure if they’re going to consider me due to my preceptorship. Thank you for the info!!

No, I didn’t request a specific unit in my cover letter.

From my understanding (from friends that were hired in previous cohorts, and the cohort that I was hired in), your app is sent to recruiters and then forwarded to units based on your preceptorship. For example, when Oncology hired, the only people that got interviews were those that precepted in oncology. Same with NICU, L&D, burn ICU, etc. The only exception to this is the Med Surg float pool and critical care float. There were several of each hired into those, although they had precepted in that acuity of patient population.

mine says still application received. I was wondering of all applicants will have their status change at some point? or just who passed the first selection?

Thanks! and good luck to all:)

Also - one last thing! Keep in mind that there are two cohort start dates! So if you don’t hear anything now, you still have plenty of time! My app was submitted in November and I didn’t get a call until March! Don’t be discouraged. This chat forum can feel overwhelming when others are getting calls and you aren’t ?

@ENTnurse thank you so much for chiming in here! It’s reassuring to hear from someone who has already been through this process successfully!

I had not started my preceptorship as at when I applied but I am interning on an ortho floor so maybe that counts.

No problem. I found it really helpful when previous hires participated in my group, too. ? Good luck!
