Trump’s assault on Postal Service and voting is a plot against American democracy | Editorial
QuoteOn Thursday morning, after months of attacks on the United States Postal Service and vote-by-mail, President Donald Trump admitted that the two efforts are connected as a part of one voter disenfranchisement effort. In a Fox Business Network interview, Trump said that the sticking point for him in the negotiations over a new coronavirus economic relief package is Post Office funding: “If we don’t make a deal, that means they don’t get the money. That means they can’t have universal mail-in voting. They just can’t have it.”

Yes the LBJ example points out democrats have been stuffing ballot boxes since the 1940s. I expect them to do it again especially in California since we have ballot harvesting.
Dateline Orange County 2016: Republicans were winning all of the voting at the voting booths but eventually when all of the "harvested" ballots were collected they lost. First time ever. Coincidence? Fraud? I know my interpretation.
The theory of poll workers not showing up has not been proven. Prove to me that they are not going to show up.
You're certainly entitled to an opinion on whether voting should be easy or hard, but referring to ways of encouraging and facilitating voting as "fraud" is at the very least inaccurate.

There would of been more deaths if Trump had not acted quickly to limit travel from China into the US. Something the liberals originally opposed. Thank GOD he is in office.
What are you basing that on? The (partial) China travel ban occurred well after the virus was broadly seeded in the US and was also well distributed among other countries that were still allowed to travel here. It certainly had the potential to delay the spread in the US, although only temporarily and to a relatively small degree, which provided an opportunity to get our containment strategies in place, which we then didn't really do, but there doesn't appear to be any basis to believe it had any significant impact on the ultimate progression of the epidemic.

Yes, good thing Trump acted quickly even though "experts" were telling him it wasnt necessary. Also, Trump was acting in other ways r/t covid that of course the public would not hear about on the (used to be) main stream news.
What are these "other ways" we didn't hear about?

Use your critical thinking skills and do you own research. Even according to Dr. Fauci President Trump's response to Covid has saved lives.
You think that people who are using their critical thinking skills are able to come to a conclusion that Trump is a good President? I watch both the far left and right wing media and a few outlier non mainstream sources....all I can conclude is Trump is a liar, an abuser of the law, unprofessional, con man. I have very good critical thinking skills.

I conclude that about 99% of ALL politicians. Trump hasn't cornered the market on that. It's sad when we live in a country that the lesser of 2 evils wins most elections. I can't stand to listen to Trump or Biden talk. Trump is whiney and condescending at best. Biden has some level of dementia, some of the things he mumbles out are no longer gaffes. It's sad to listen to. We call Trump out on morals-yes, he's beyond cringe worthy, but Biden isn't without his issues-accusations from females, pictures of sniffing and groping young females, as well as a son who has multiple issues (I only bring up Hunter because his dad talks about what a fine upstanding a moral young man he is. If that's what he calls moral, I have to question his moral compass). So while everyone is sitting here name calling and trash talking each other (yes, many on here are, whether you want to self acknowledge or not), we need to understand that we all allow these dumpster fires to happen. Not just the Trumpster fire, Biden and many others, on both sides, have been in politics for decades, and have made laws and set the tones for our culture and behaviors. Congress is where the big cleanup is needed. But until we take responsibility for what we allow, WE are part of the problem
Comparing Biden to Trump in terms of public speaking ability, ability to communicate a complicated topic, understanding of foreign policy or the actual constitution is like comparing Serena Williams to my wife, because they've both played tennis at a famous stadium. It's alarming that discernment of competence or incompetence and threat to our republic is so clouded by politics for so many people.
Take Trump's repeated claims...beginning in 2016, where his campaign was trying to get Russian assistance in the election (see Senate report recently released) to this Summer, that the election is rigged. That's Trump saying that the USA doesn't have free and fair elections already. Then and now Trump suggests that he will contest and deny the veracity of the results if he loses. Without evidence he condemns widespread mailed ballots as fraught with fraud. That sets a tone.
Now, coincidentally, the new businessman Trump supporter USPS Postmaster is presiding over a diminishing of mail office capacity and efficiency without any real good explanation or accountability. Isn't that a remarkable coincidence? That sets a tone.
Only some of us are "allowing " Trump and his loyalists to throw away truth telling for projection, deflection and corruption. When Melania suggested in her nice speech that Americans deserved a president who would tell them the truth, I figured she was speaking metaphorically because her husband as president is a liar...more than 20,000 and counting. Important lies. That sets a tone.
Trump couldn't even be honest with the public about a dangerous pandemic. Trump's misleading and inaccurate musings about Covid set a tone. So when Mrs Trump said that she was impressed by what Americans would do for one another many people immediately wondered about that... because of her husband many people won't wear a mask for the safety of others. That's an issue of tone.
Right now, Trump supporters are allowing a whole bunch of unacceptable behavior including lying, corruption and incompetence from the Trump administration. That's not OK and pointing fingers at some other incompetence or corruption elsewhere doesn't diminish or decrease the peril that such an unethical agenda creates for our republic.
When or founding fathers said they gave us a republic..."if we could keep it" what did you think they were concerned about. Have you read their discussions about abuse of power, etc @Hoosier_RN ?
Do you think it's odd that the Republican party doesn't even have a platform this year...it's basically whatever Trump says it is? These are unprecedented times.

I have, and have a good understanding. I think its totally amazing that people on both sides of the aisle are touting their candidate as close to perfect. Sorry, not sorry. They both have a boatload of issues, that in the best interest of the country, cannot be ignored

You didn't answer my question. What do you think they were concerned about in terms of "keeping the republic" and creating a balance of power?
At some point it's critical to consider the health and wellbeing of the republic when considering candidates and their qualifications for the presidency, or their motives for seeking it...if we want to truly call ourselves patriots. It is not wise for us to ignore obvious symptoms of authoritarian and lawless behavior in an elected official simply for partisan purposes. In fact, it's dangerous.
If Trump is not accountable to laws governing nepotism, conflicts of interest, oversight, campaign finance, etc, what laws is he accountable to and who will decide or enforce that?

I got my robo call yesterday. Why can the Trumps vote by mail and I can't? The absentee and the mail-in ballots get counted in the same room and there isn't any difference between the two anymore. And plenty or Republicans voted by mail. I do, unless someone can show me why not, have an issue with actual ballots being mailed out rather than applications for ballots. I don't understand the in's and out's of that kind of system. Intuitively, it makes me cringe a little but that would be a reaction from ignorance of the system, not total denial that it works well.

I feel that our forefathers were worried about multiple forms of government taking over and leaving people with a semblance of what they had just fought to be rid of, and that the balancing act lies in the hands of voters, plain and simple. The people will enforce by vote; if he chooses not to leave if voted out, that becomes another issue, which will have to be dealt with. But, as Trump is to be held accountable for his actions, I simply state that ALL lawmakers should be held accountable for their misdeeds

I keep getting texts from both presidential campaigns requesting donations. Since I didn't give out my number, I feel it was sold by a listing service. They are both driving me bonkers!

So you understand that one of the founders largest concerns was that the republic would be lost to an unscrupulous and corrupt man who would want to behave as a King. Surely you can see that Trump is such a man.
Who holds the check and balances to the office of the presidency? Did the Senate demonstrate any appetite whatsoever to restrain Trump earlier this year? Some members of the Republican Senate spread propaganda in defense of Trump.
The comment about the robocall wasn't about privacy, it was about the deep and wide republican hypocrisy about mailed in ballots.

The post office wants 25 billion dollars, does anyone really think that is all bc of covid. We all know that Russia and other countries are trying to influence the election, plus there have already been instances of voter fraud via mail. Anyone who requests a mail in ballot can get one. The post office needs to fix its own mess, not taxpayers, IMO. That is not unamerican!
Spot on! Mail in voting = voter suppression. The democrats are already calling for Biden not to not to cede defeat after he loses the election. They are threatening to tie it up in the courts. This tells me they know the polls showing Biden in the lead are false, just as the polls that showed Clinton in the lead were false. The Dems are trying to find away for Biden to get out of having to debate Trump because they know Trump will hand Biden his butt and lay him bare as the demented buffoon and bully that he is.
