Ok. So my pt was a slightly demented, whiny, demanding, drug-abusing female in her 70's. She's very strange. She can be very sweet and then turn nutso on you in less than a second. Anyway, I brought her a Lortab. I set the MAR down on her bedside table and she asked for a tissue. I go over and get the tissue off of the sink, and she takes the Lortab in the meantime. As soon as she swallows it, she then asks, "Can I have a Lortab?" *Sigh* "I just gave you a Lortab." "Well, then can I have a Lortab?" *Sigh* This goes on and on. Hard not to laugh and/or strangle her. As we're discussing the ever-elusive lortab, she blows her nose on a tissue (huge gob of snot came out)...and then reaches down with the same tissue and wipes her crotch... Just wait. It gets better. Then, she takes that snotty crotch tissue and plops it down on the MAR!
OMG! I just about died. Had a fun time explaining to pharmacy why they needed to print me a new MAR...
I love reading all of these stories! It's really what keeps you going sometimes. I also love allnurses.com because I can come here and vent, read other posts, or get some support from those much more experienced than myself. Seems to me the poster was just telling us an unusual day and I like that! I'd love to keep reading more or these unusual days

A-men to that! To those who are supposing that some of the nurses who have posted here are "cruel"-- how very little you know. Posting a funny anecdote has nothing to do with riduculing a person. I guess those of you who feel that way would be shocked to learn of the hundreds and hundreds of posts on the "yuckiest, grossest nursing horror story" thread. Thank God I can come here, have a laugh or two and face the next day with a smile. Don't like? Don't read.
Oh my gosh. I haven't read anything on this site in a while...and I just had to read the post after getting the headline in my e-mail. That was TOO funny. They all are. Hey, it's just a way to deal with the stuff we see everyday that would freak out the normal public. I work as a behavioral med charge nurse in an acute care hospital. I also have patients that have acute medical problems along with whatever mental illness they may have. Some days...if you told what happened to anyone other than another nurse that did the same thing...no one would ever believe you. So, really, those that find this stuff offensive, get over it, get a life. No one is harmed in the telling, several of us can relate, and that's what it is about. No one is going to show up at the little ladie's door and harass or laugh at her.
You know, just when I think I have heard or seen it all...someone surprises me. Keeps life interesting. Keep posting those stories!!
mamanurse......I too love my 'non bed-side' position now! I am in the public health arena and adore it! However, I am sooo glad I have all those experiences from the hospital. I really love this site, especially when people get their panties in a knot! ha ha......claws out! Oh my, and the comment about not getting into a battle of the wits with an unarmed person.......funny stuff! Love ya all!:redpinkhe
