Totally Gross! Had to share...

Published

Ok. So my pt was a slightly demented, whiny, demanding, drug-abusing female in her 70's. She's very strange. She can be very sweet and then turn nutso on you in less than a second. Anyway, I brought her a Lortab. I set the MAR down on her bedside table and she asked for a tissue. I go over and get the tissue off of the sink, and she takes the Lortab in the meantime. As soon as she swallows it, she then asks, "Can I have a Lortab?" *Sigh* "I just gave you a Lortab." "Well, then can I have a Lortab?" *Sigh* This goes on and on. Hard not to laugh and/or strangle her. As we're discussing the ever-elusive lortab, she blows her nose on a tissue (huge gob of snot came out)...and then reaches down with the same tissue and wipes her crotch... Just wait. It gets better. Then, she takes that snotty crotch tissue and plops it down on the MAR!:eek::eek: OMG! I just about died. Had a fun time explaining to pharmacy why they needed to print me a new MAR...

no, thank heaven! couldn''t have been my older laptop though...

maybe someone will invent a "spew protector" for various size laptops. it might came with the allnurses.com logo, maybe:idea: that way, we'd look terribly chic and clever instead of like clumsy

dorks... kitten protectors are a bit harder to come by!:D

heh heh...i think it's rubyvee that keeps telling people that put stuff like this on the boards they should give us a drink warning or something to that effect? maybe a new policy guideline for all nurses!!

Isn't nursing grand. And we pay money to go to school and learn how to care for these people! I still wouldn't do any other job even though I have had similar patients.

:barf02: Gee, I miss bedside nursing.......always a new story to tell!

LOL OMG, how awful!!

Sorry, I don't think that's funny at all. I find it cruel to mock patients with dementia and I'm sure if that was your family or loved one you would not see the humor in the story.

Wow, she's a sad 70 y/o drug addict... why did you feel the need to post something so obviously gross and cringe producing? I don't find it funny at all... I'm more curious about your need to laugh about this and then post.....

My take on this anecdote is this, I do not believe that the person who started this thread was making fun of the patient. I think it was of a way to deal with the situation. Personally, I have seen many sad things and I have also seen many funny things as well. My own not so great moments...I have stepped in poop and almost dived face first into it. I have had poop thrown at me, been cursed at, slapped, kicked, pinched I have seen and experienced it all. I have had moments when I just want to cry, but crying is not an option so...you smile to yourself, you might even laugh and you get on with it. I have had a couple experiences when someone was dying and did not want me in the room because of my skin color. I have also had people who would not let me go because they want me to just sit there and hold their hand. I have found that anyone, at any time can become sick and unable to take care of themselves, no one is excluded from this not young or old. That is not a funny matter, it is just the way life is sometimes.

Then don't read it. I have had gross things happen to myself in life, and if I hadn't learned how to see the humor in these things then I'd probably be sitting here finding someone's post to ridicule for myself. My husband is a quadriplegic, and we find things funny about his condition all the time. Like when he gets asked to stand up and be weighed at the doctor's office! LOL! I don't know how you make it through the day without being able to let off a little steam every now and again. So maybe try not to be so judgemental? I mean, if I had written that I had this old ***** lady who didn't deserve my time, then I'd say that I was mocking her and being cruel. As it turns out, I'm glad that she did the snotty crotch rag in front of me b/c it led me to order a U/A and see that she had a massive UTI and started atbx tx for it.

Why did you feel the need to write in and judge me? I guess you could use some lightening up, too. Sheesh. I'm sure you've NEVER had to blow off any steam at all from work. Actually, you just did do some steam blowing by writing in to my post b/c it aggravated you. Sorry, but other people have opinions that may differ from yours. I can't tell non-healthcare types about the things I see, so I come here and find judgement. I could see this if I had posted something very mean and cruel-spirited, but I didn't. I just told what happened and asked others to see the silliness in it. If you have no sense of humor about life's little silly moments, then I wouldn't suggest that you stay in nursing much longer. Geez, take a break.

To all others, I'm sorry for the 2 previous threads I've responded to. I just can't stand it when I see other posts on this board head in a similar direction b/c someone misinterprets things. But thank you to all those who have added their stories. Too funny! :lol2:

Lol. Life as a nurse is never dull. Thank u for sharing this..it made my day....Needed a laugh big time.:)

I totally just shared that on my facebook - O.M.FREAKIN G.!!!!!

I've heard from a friend of mine that her aunt herself had this patient or someone else did....anyway, she SMELLED GOD AWFUL down in her private area and they were having to bathe her...even the girl herself was waving her hand under nose it smelled so bad. The nurse who eventually cleaned her said "Girl, you outta be ashamed of yo self!"

- I hope I have the guts to say stuff like that one day...some people need to be told, it's really sad that no one has.:jester:
