Too many know it "allnurses"

Published

Who are these "know it all" nurses that frequent this forum? Are you here just to drive me crazy? I hate that we are no longer allowed to vent about our bad day or complain about annoying patients. Heaven forbid we say something negative or we will be labeled as "heartless" and "unprofessional." Are these people who know everything really nurses? Do they really deal with the public day in and day out like I do?

Sometimes patients need to be put in their place. That doesn't make me a bad nurse for telling them so. Yes I do have negative thoughts about my non compliant patient who doesn't have insurance and frequents my hospital 4 times a week for the same thing. Yes, getting your prescription filled and taking your medicine would save everyone a lot of time and headache... Whoops maybe I shouldn't have said that... that makes me a "complainer" and "uncaring." I guess I AM "what is wrong with nursing today."

And heaven forbid I wear my Tom and Jerry scrub top to work.. That makes me "brainless."

I bet now I will be labeled "cruel" or "harsh" for starting this "hateful" thread.

Oh and I better not use too many smileys!! :uhoh3:

Well, here's what I do...

When I get to where I REALLY need some hugs I go to my friends here on Allnurses... not the general forum but my friends on my page. I feel these people I share more than just Allnurses with, we are simpatico in certain ways. This I know. We know we can say just what we need to and just exactly how we need to let it out, and it's OK. There is always someone who will just listen, and look out for you too :heartbeat

one more thought. i think i have been willing to support those who need to vent, i post sometimes and simply enjoy hanging out here at allnurses. if some members do not feel i am qualified to post in the capacity of an "experienced nurse," well so be it. i have not nursed since november 2003, because six hours before i was scheduled to begin my shift, i had a severe cva, found to have been the after effect of a congenital aneurysm that ruptured when i was 13 months old.

beinga member of allnurses makes me feel as though i am still a part of the sister/brotherhood of nursing. my body may not work as it used to, but my mind still does, and i still consider myself a nurse.

those of you who do not think i still feel or think like a nurse, that's fine, because i have the aforementioned very thick skin. after what i've had to endure since that day, those opinions mean

nothing.

I wouldn't mind being allowed to act like adults and have more heated discussions... whenever a thread gets the slightest bit heated it's closed for "staff review" and never reappears.

I know I can be snarky and "know it all" myself, but only about things I actually know a lot about!

What really chaps my hide the most is the know it all nurses who post in the "international nursing" forum, who are not international nurses and have no personal knowledge of international nursing issues, but just come there to regurgitate things they read on the internet and to discourage foreign nurses from coming to take "american jobs". It kind of defeats the point of having an international forum - it used to be very helpful and was immensely useful before I moved to the US. Now? Not so much.

Well at least we don't have as many "husbands" of overseas nurses being experts on nursing issues anymore. It's one thing to be told you are a lousy nurse by a new grad but it's a whole other kettle of fish when it's a guy who knows nothing other than his wife from "insert country" is the bestest nurse in the whole wide world because he knows.

it's not the "heated discussions" that get threads closed down, but the inevitable personal attacks, that do.

i for one, am thrilled these parameters are in place.

life is filled with enough 'screw-you's'.

i appreciate that we are required/expected to use forethought and consideration when debating with others.

it's too bad this doesn't happen w/o tos.

it really IS possible to have impassioned debate, less the personal insults.

Wow, what a thread. It was educational. I have been lurking here, off and on, for 2 years and just registered. I learned that I should have incorporated "nurse" or "RN" into my name or I would be labeled as a poser.

I have worked on the same unit for 3 yrs, 1 as a tech and 2 as a nurse (CVIC). I have just now gotten to the point in my career that I have stopped striving to be the perfect nurse, because, it is an impossible achievement. I am soooo much happier. I enjoy this forum because it is the only place I have found where I can communicate with like minded people.

Regarding the LPN vs RN thing; my sister has been an LPN for 25 years and I have been an RN for 2 years and she knows way more than I know and runs circles around me as a nurse.

Mad-Mary if that was in reference to what I posted what I meant was that when peoples names had "nurse" in it they were nurses. Now they can be CNAs or students and that can be misleading. I in no way meant to imply that people had to put "nurse" into their names.

I guess I must just have a different definition of what a personal insult is then.

However, that being said, there are some people on here that are very encouraging and supportive. I appreciate you guys more than you know. I hope you know who you are. Unfortunately sometimes it only takes one bad apple to spoil your thread.

I totally agree with you on this...
