What if you were in love with and going to marry a wealthy doctor and he told you that he would rather you quit working and just look after the household/family affairs and basically do what you want to do?
Would you quit nursing and just pursue your hobbies? Would you work PRN/part-time or just quit altogether? Would you go to grad school just for the heck of it?
What would you do if you had this opportunity and what would you advise someone who had this opportunity to do?

i'd hire a maid for the darned household.
he's NUTS if he thinks i'm going to upkeep a presumably large, lavish house.
then, i'd attend grad school, and work part time as a nurse.
i don't do well at being non-productive.

I can't advise someone else because it's different for each person. If it were me in that position I would cut back to per d or very part time, just to keep my hand in and get me out of the house on a regular basis.
And I second the "maid" part!!!

I'd work. Its important to me to have my own career, my own money and my own independence.
That said, I think its a highly individualized choice.

I'd probably work per diem or part time and pursue the hobbies I really want to do. I'd need to keep busy because my doctor husband probably wouldn't be home often enough to keep me fulfilled. I'd probably job hop until I found the place that can accept my sudden lapse in coming to work daily...LOL

I'd further my education, work per diem, and hire a maid lol. Then I'd volunteer at my kids school, activities etc...
I love working...but always thought I'd be more available for the fun stuff when my kids started school. I barely manage to hit an occasional party and field trip.

I'd probably quit work and volunteer at an awesome clinic here part time so I can keep something for myself to do that's related to nursing.
Then I'd hire a maid and a gardener, take classes in stuff I like, pursue hobbies, etc.

LOL! My husband tells everyone if we ever hit the lottery, he would put in his two week notice the next day. I, however, would call for a short vacation, ROFL. I love my job and would do it even if I never had to work another day in my life.:redbeathe (Besides, who would carry the health insurance on the kids, )

Have to agree that it is definitely an individual decision. that said, I have worked way too hard to be the nurse that I am to stay home to feed someone elses ego. I too would hire the maid; and work or volunteer part time (rocking babies would be my first choice) and pursue some hobbies or go back for my masters.

As long as it wasn't a control thing or an ego thing, and I'd have equal and free access to finances, I would quit and do what I wanted to do, which would include, as Leslie said, getting some hired help. :)
For a woman, I would recommend Suzie Orman's new book "Women and Money". She talks about having a plan in place for the "what if's" such as what if he died, what if you needed to escape, etc. Being dependent without thought isn't wise. I'd recommend this book for anyone even if their spouse isn't rich.
Wish I had that option.
Knowing how hard nurses work, if I were rich and married to a nurse, I'm sure I'd offer my spouse the option out if she/he desired. I'd consider it an act of love to offer them that out. :)

I'd definitely hire a maid. I'd work part-time(too bored otherwise) but in a specialty that REALLY appeals to me and do some traveling!

If this wealthy physician was in love with her then he would want her to do what made her happy, whatever that was...
If it were me, I'd hire the maid, go to grad school, teach nursing and not worry about how little I was making...I would put all of my income in a savings account...for me.
