This was interesting in the news today...

The abortion law builds on legislation passed in 2010 that represented a major shift for a traditionally Catholic country, transforming Spain into one of the most progressive countries in Europe on reproductive rights. Spain's constitutional court last week rejected a challenge by the right-wing Popular Party against allowing abortions in the first 14 weeks of pregnancy.

The debate will be heated in Spain, I imagine, as the conservative opposition pushes back. My daughter had horrible menstrual pain during her adolescence and young adulthood.  I'm certain that she would have benefitted from that time.

You were quick enough to condemn the BBC for perceived bias so now put out something that puts Trump and republicans in a bad light.

Sounds like a good use of time.  What does that have to do with my comment that you were replying to?

Correct.  I also stated it isn't proof of anything

What he showed on video certainly looked like something is very wrong.

You earlier seemed to acknowledge the same when you put the blame on a lack of oversight.

Now you're saying the video isn't credible.

Which is it?

I am reading about fraud cases being prosecuted in Minnesota that have resulted in 80 convictions. All done without Mr. Shirley's video.
I recall Project Veritas who surreptitiously videod people and then edited them into awful, misrepresentations. I think Mr. Shirley has taken a page out of their book.

Beerman said:

So, in your view, what is the purpose of this "misrepresented video"?

To take down Walz?  Thats the only theory I've heard so far.  He's not significant enough for most to care.

And, why are you so quick to dismiss what the video showed us?

I can't possibly know what their purpose is but publishing faked, or photoshopped, or fabricated information is not uncommon in defense of Trump or in promotion of Trump's agenda.  I could guess that the purpose is to create outrage among the targeted audience.  I could guess that the purpose is to create another diversionary story in the midst of the unwrapping of the Epstein sex trafficking business. I could guess that it's purpose is to throw shade at Waltz since that's what I heard on NewsMax today.

I'm quick to dismiss the video because there's nothing to it that would cause me to do other than dismiss it.  As previously mentioned, this is an old story in MN getting a new twist in a time that people are asking uncomfortable questions about Trump's health and grooving from the Oval.

University of Minnesota media law professor Jane Kirtley said the video is flashy, but not meaty. There aren't a lot of facts to back up the claims.

"It's a lot of rhetoric with relatively little substance behind it,” Kirtley said.

Yeah, I keep hearing it is an old story as if that discredits the new reporting.   What's the "new twist"?

Here's the "old story" which includes the Quality Learing Center that Mr. Shirley featured in his video. The Quality Learing Center received another $2 million since this news report:

I'm not seeing how it being an old story makes it irrelevant now.  Maybe you can explain and convince me there isn't something fraudulent going on here?

Looks like proof that you need the money is going to be required before you get it.

I can't see how it is relevant. I have no need to convince you that there wasn't fraud there. Just like I have no need to convince you that the fishing expedition with the video camera isn't itself a form of fraud. It could be, so I'm not really interested.  We can only share what we read or watch or experience in some other way. We do that because we're interested in those stories, presumably.  I don't find any value in discussing previously identified fraud simply because a partisan source pointed the fraud at a specific demographic or person. It does appear to be a good distraction from talking about the largest sex trafficking ring in our lifetimes and how some of most powerful men across the globe were casually (or not so casually) participating in the trafficking. It would be a shame if a prince lost his title and royal perks because of a Democrat hoax.

It will be interesting to see how this translates in the midterms, lots of working people needing childcare might find the effort more pettythan protective.  I think the White House should think carefully about launching websites for the reporting of fraud.  Trump is, after all, an adjudicated fraud in an untethered position to continue defrauding folks.   https://www.rawstory.com/alternet-posts/trump-supporters-email/

"Here are 3 reasons I need YOU to STOP THE BOIL NOW BEFORE MY END-OF-YEAR FUNDRAISING DEADLINE." The email went on to suggest that Trump wanted to send $2,000 checks to "workers" using revenue generated from his tariffs, though he claimed Democrats planned to "send your check to illegals if you don't respond in the next hour!" The solicitation warned that control of the House and Senate were both on the line, and that supporters' money was needed for "STOPPING COMMUNISM," using Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) and New York City mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani (D) as examples.

Hahaha... communists. STOP THE STEAL,  STOPPING COMMUNISM, Anyway, that works for him and people give him money even though he really doesn't need money.

Seriously? You don't understand that you always just put out one side of the discussion/argument?

What I am asking you to do is to look at every side, not just your right wing Trump/republican loving stuff.

Who knows? You may come across something that will make you wonder about your choices and question what you have been told.

PS. Have a Happy New Year and "Lang may yer lum reek."

I know I have just said it to Beerman but for everyone else on this thread;

Have a Happy New Year and I hope 2026 gives you all some peace and happiness.

Or as we say in Scotland;

A guid New Year tae ane an awLang may yer lum reek.

Are you going to make this same request to the Trump / Republican hating crowd?  How about for yourself?

The particular comment you replied to, me introducing the Nick Shirley video, was an odd spot to make this request.

But I'll do my dardenest to try!  Hopefully someday I'll gain the wisdom to bring to these threads the kind of intelligent discussion that you provide all of us.

Until then, thank you so much for your patience and for being a great example of how to engage in political conversation in a intellectual,  open-minded, and considerate manner.

If all these daycare businesses are legit as you claim, why would there be a shortage of daycare?  To get their money they simply need to show they are following the rules that they should be following in the first place.

I made a claim about legitimacy? That bit of disingenuous word play sounds quite a bit like no one who's in the country legally or not a violent criminal will need to worry about Trump's ICE and their steep deportation quotas.  Or that women who really need abortions will be able to get one.  Those type of Trumpian reassurances have ripened out, to date, to be lies.  Platitudes for the voting base.

So far it seems that Trump and his cabinet may well the people most challenged by the notion that people should follow the law.
