QuoteThe abortion law builds on legislation passed in 2010 that represented a major shift for a traditionally Catholic country, transforming Spain into one of the most progressive countries in Europe on reproductive rights. Spain's constitutional court last week rejected a challenge by the right-wing Popular Party against allowing abortions in the first 14 weeks of pregnancy.
The debate will be heated in Spain, I imagine, as the conservative opposition pushes back. My daughter had horrible menstrual pain during her adolescence and young adulthood. I'm certain that she would have benefitted from that time.

The idea of transgendered women competing in female sports aside, the whole "a man pretending to be a woman" and your statement "congrats to him" insults my soul to the pit of my stomach today. I'm saddened. They go through so much pain and emotional anguish to be reduced to "a man pretending to be a woman". No need for you to comment as I know you're about the biology end of discussion, I'm just saying out loud how it makes me feel.

Well, don't put the transgendered women competing against females aside as that is what my comment is referring to.
That isn't the end if my dudcussion. My discussion would also include that they should feel free to pretend to be a woman. As long as they're not children being influenced to do so, or that they expect the rest of the world to treat them special because of it.

I think that is the point of bringing these things up and using that language. To make empathetic people feel badly about the cruel disregard.

We'll assume the resident's story is true. It still doesn't matter. They were looking for evidence. The owner of the house is the same as it was.
This all came about after a long investigation the predates Trump. Arrests were made as part of this investigation. The warrant was issued based on a 80+ page affidavit from law enforcement.
You claimed that cruelty was the purpose of the raid. Another said it was "sloppy". Neither is true.
We have a disagreement about the word "sloppy." Okay.

Trump is sloppy. His advisors are sloppy. His cabinet is sloppy. Inattention to spelling, grammar, and details are a hallmark of Trump communication and behavior. He is impulsive and emotional which results in sloppy decision making processes. .

I understood clearly what your post was about.
Thank you for using the words "transgendered women" this time, but before you were misgendering the swimmer and said "good for him" which was deliberate. It was a derogatory post (in my opinion) and the X post within the article about "a man pretending to be a woman" that triggered my reaction which I kept separate from the idea of transgendered women competing against cis gendered females which I have no comments about.
Speaking of, Trump's new weapon of choice against Universities is federal funding cuts or threats of cuts.
QuoteThe department wants Penn to issue a statement saying that it will comply with Title IX; effectively strip Thomas of any awards or records in Division I swimming competitions; and apologize to each female swimmer "whose individual recognition is restored expressing an apology on behalf of the university for allowing her educational experience in athletics to be marred by sex discrimination."
The Trump administration in March suspended approximately $175 million in federal funding for Penn over its decision to let Thomas compete, the White House has said. The Ivy League school's federal money came from the Defense Department and the Department of Health and Human Services.

QuoteOver the course of just 13 weeks, President Donald Trump has made it clear that he'll use billions of dollars in federal grants and contracts, primarily for research, as a lever to force colleges and universities to bow to his agenda and increase the representation of conservative ideology on their campuses.

The swimmer's preferred pronoun wasn't mentioned. If pronouns can now apply to anyone and the preferred one is unknown, any pronoun should be acceptable.

QuoteChevron and ExxonMobil, the country's two largest oil companies, both announced first quarter results on Friday. "In this environment, it is more important than ever to focus on what we can control,” said the latter's CEO Darren Woods. Indeed.
They are both still doing fine, of course — ExxonMobil reported first quarter earnings of $7.7 billion, while Chevron pulled in $3.5 billion. It's just that they're definitely doing a lot worse than they might have hoped for after helping shepherd Trump's Oil Administration into the White House. ExxonMobil's quarter was about six percent worse than the same period a year ago, while Chevron's was more than 36 percent worse. It is not quite going to plan.
QuoteIt was always a bit silly to think that slogans would somehow "unleash" an oil industry that is already the biggest in the history of the world, but Trump's love of Big Oil is now running up against his propensity to tank everything he touches. Crude oil prices are down around $20 per barrel since the week he took office; they currently are below $60 per barrel, a threshold below which new drilling becomes unprofitable in many places. Drilling of new wells in the Permian Basin, the massive oil field in West Texas and New Mexico, has already dropped by several percent over the last month.
Aside from the oil prices themselves, Trump's absurdist trade war is, of course, also having an effect. Companies have to pay more for various requirements like steel, again changing the economics of any new well they might want to drill. If oil prices continue to drop, it could result in an almost 10 percent reduction in oil output over the course of a year. In short, if there really were an energy "emergency" that the administration is basing its various oil-friendly policies on, they would be doing more or less the exact opposite. After all, the historic record output of both oil and gas came under President Biden.
QuoteChevron's CEO Mike Wirth touted his company's continued strength "despite changing market conditions,” which surely gets a spot in this week's Euphemism Awards. Though again, he's not wrong — these remain some of the biggest and richest companies on the planet, and they will continue to be so regardless of how badly their chosen president upends the global economy. But with profits dropping and the financial incentive to follow the "drill baby drill" ethos falling off a cliff, one has to wonder if, in the C-suites of these and other oil companies, at least a little bit of buyer's remorse might be settling in.

Trump's DOJ agrees to settlement with family of Ashli Babbitt, rioter killed on Jan. 6
Quote
The Justice Department has reached a settlement in principle with the family of Ashli Babbitt, the Jan. 6 rioter who was fatally shot by a police officer during the 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol. DOJ lawyers and Babbitt's estate revealed the agreement during a court hearing Friday. The amount of the settlement in the wrongful death lawsuit was not disclosed.
The $30 million lawsuit, brought by Babbitt's family and the conservative group Judicial Watch, alleges that U.S. Capitol Police Lt. Michael Byrd was negligent when he fired his gun as Babbitt and other rioters tried to break through doors leading toward the lobby of the House chamber on Jan. 6, 2021. The lawsuit accused Byrd of ambushing Babbitt and claimed he was not in uniform, did not identify himself as an officer, and did not provide "any warnings or commands" before shooting.
Following an internal investigation, both the Justice Department and the Capitol Police cleared Byrd of any wrongdoing. The DOJ said investigators had examined video footage, physical evidence from the scene, autopsy results and statements from officers and witnesses....

We do all live in the Trump world where we have facts and alternate facts. A world where the immigrants are eating cats and dogs and teachers are giving children sex change treatments.
