Along the lines of the first thread, "Things you would love to say to your nursing instructors" I thought this would be a great thread to start. I've since graduated LVN but there was one main thing I wanted to say to some students in my class.
Will you people in the back row please stop talking! I swear that today I can still hear their motormouths running! :chuckle
When I am in the RN bridge I will come back and post some more. I'm sure some of you have something to get off your chest. Come on and unload here! :)
Why is it that you are getting all of the credit for planning the pinning ceremony?
I have: Reserved the space where we are having it, including all of the negotiating it took; coordinated all of the decorations; coordinated ALL of the fund raising - including having most of it at my house; made all of the pledge cards by hand; coordinated and received all of the money from the student association; listen to the other students gripe and complain because they can't get a straight answer from you; and YOU are getting all of the credit and a nice gift certificate from the class?!?!?! I can't even get a simple thank you. Geez, it must be nice.
To the group of 5 or so girls in my class that think they are the only ones in the class that are good enough to be nurses...GET OVER YOURSELVES!! If I have to hear one more story, "well, I'm a medical assistant and at our office we...or one time..." I'm going throw myself out the window!!!!
Stop complaining that there isn't enough time and that it's not fair that you have clinicals, a test, a quiz, and a group project coming up...SO DOES EVERYONE ELSE!! Are you really being snotty to our instructor too?
And were you guys seriously making snide remarks, rolling your eyes, and giggling while people were presenting their group projects in front of the class? Unbelievable.
Nursing is about having humility...being caring, it's most certainly not feeling the need to continually cut your fellow nurses down to size.
AHH! I feel better.
It doesn't matter how "cute" the pt is, you have to be able to provide care. Are you going to refuse an assignment because the pt isn't hot enough, next time?
You never come to lecture. You come late on exam days. You were late to simulation. You missed five days of clinicals. Do you really think you're going to pass?
When you get an answer you don't like, rephrasing it isn't going to change what you hear. NO. We aren't getting a breakdown of the test. NO. We aren't getting points back for that question. NO. Just, NO.
Thank you for your help. You saved my bacon and I don't mind saying so. You're going to be a fantastic nurse and you're already a fantastic friend.
Please don't huff and puff impatiently and snicker at our classmates who are ESL when they are speaking in front of the class. They've come just as far as you have in the program. If you think it's difficult now, try to imagine how hard it is for someone to learn this material in their non-native language. Show a little respect, please.
Thank you! As an ESL student I cannot say much how humuliating and discouraging it can be
[quote=tyler77;4964487....if you can't correctly pronounce a word, why do you insist on always mis-pronouncing it? it's pronounced "teres major", not "trezz major". everyone else can pronounce words correctly, oh, wait, you must have some excuse.
i don't expect you to like my accent but at least be patient. this is not my native language and i would like to see how you would study nursing in foreign language!
