(Or life)This is sort of like dropping words of wisdom of things you have learned during the course of nursing. Heck it may even be another profession. But just things you've learned that could be of help to another.

I have learned to always have agreements written down in black and white. If you don't have it written down, then you cannot claim it.

Specializes in Med Surg, Ortho.

Things I have learned in nursing......

1) Always trust your gut instinct.

2) CYA, always call the doctor with a change in pt condition, chart well.

3) Develop thick skin because you will need it.

4) Avoid giving TMI.

Nursing has shown me that the phrase "for better or worse, in sickness and in health" in marriage vows is alive and well for many people.

I see love in action in many a patient's husband or wife.

This makes me smile too.

Specializes in rehab.

Nursing has taught me that no matter how close your co-workers (docs, nurses, CNA) seem to be, when the feces hits the fan, you are on your own! Document all and everything.

You can't lose if you kill em with kindness:cool:

Specializes in Critical Care (ICU and ER).

1. Patients lie.

2. Don't trust the family.

Saying "now I've seen everything" will only tempt fate to send along something even more bizarre.

Specializes in Geriatrics.

Things I have learned in nursing: Compassion is key.

Blessings, Michelle

Specializes in Cardiac ICU.

Nursing has taught me...

Not all nurses are nice. There are those nurses who think that 24-hr nursing care stops at their shift. I hate giving them report after a busy shift. They expect everything to be done by the time they clock in. If not, they'll give me a piece of their mind--or if they're feeling extra lazy, the eye roll.

Specializes in pulm/cardiology pcu, surgical onc.

Calmly asking a patient who is anxious, painful, etc to 'breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth' will often work (except if theyre HOH lol) as I learned in labor prep classes 17 years ago. To get a chuckle out of the men I'll say it's just like having a baby!

Specializes in Med/Surg, ICU, educator.

keep yer eyes open, and yer mouth shut! And document, document, document!!!

1. Ignorance is bliss...don't take it personal.

2.Treat others the way you want to be treated(including your coworkers).

3.Your career is what you make it, good or bad.

4.Being extremely calm, nice, and perky irritates and confuses the crankiest patients!

5. A smile is more welcoming than a frown...try it sometime. :)

6.Take care of yourself, you're no good to anyone else if you don't.

You can't lose if you kill em with kindness:cool:

...you might irritate the heck out of 'em, though! :lol2:
