The Trump Thread

Published

I confess to back pedaling into Trump territory when I wanted to leave discussions about him in the garbage can.  My thread on the read-only break room site has 9,600 replies so I thought I'd bring up a new one.

He's not going away.

Haberman's book is out based on interviews.  I won't read it, but the excerpts are interesting.  Especially what he says about McConnell, a description that's against the Terms of Service here, but I actually don't disagree with.  LOL

Quote

“At one point, Trump made a candid admission that was as jarring as it was ultimately unsurprising. ‘The question I get asked more than any other question: “If you had it to do again, would you have done it?”’Trump said of running for president. ‘The answer is, yeah, I think so. Because here’s the way I look at it. I have so many rich friends and nobody knows who they are.’ … Reflecting on the meaning of having been president of the United States, his first impulse was not to mention public service, or what he felt he’d accomplished, only that it appeared to be a vehicle for fame, and that many experiences were only worth having if someone else envied them.”

Do you believe that what Trump said on that call is evidence that he was trying to cheat while being a member of a criminal enterprise?

I believe that call was evidence of election interference. DA Willis also has evidence about the slates false electors, which involved people who have already confessed. These are parts of a criminal enterprise. If Republicans are so sure that Trump did not commit crimes, why not have his day in court to demonstrate his innocence?

Considering how many people in the Trump circle have served time and are serving time that's almost a good way of describing him.  sarcasm...my new year new me didn't include ending sarcasm.

Maybe he had no idea or control over what people did after his loss but if he conceded, accepted defeat perhaps we would be be having this conversation.

When this happened already, and he was convicted, he won the popular vote and the election.  People won't believe it and don't care.

True, but I would like to see this adjudicated in a court, if nothing else to send a message that no one is above the law. I thought that was why Majority Leader McConnell refused to vote to impeach.

But, I don't think Trump and his lawyers have any evidence to exonerate him, so they resort to personal attacks on the prosecutor. Typical, just like the insults he tried on Letitia James, Alvin Bragg and Jack Smith.

This does not erase the fact that he called the governor of Georgia and secretary state and tried to pressure them to create non-existent votes.

It doesn't erase that but this disqualification most certainly creates doubt as to the legitimacy of the charges.

To me it creates doubt that Trump has any defense at all, except for attacking the personal life of the DA.

Trump pops off on social media blaming Biden and open borders for the attacks in New Orleans and Las Vegas, even after both men have been identified as US citizens with military connections.

If he doesn't even know where the threats are coming from, how can he lead effectively or make informed decisions to protect the nation? Accuracy, accountability, and a clear understanding of the facts—qualities that seem lacking when it comes to Trump

On the other hand, I believe he HAS been told all of the relevant facts but in his desperation to create fear of migrants anywhere and everywhere, he chooses to lie in order to stoke fear among his people.

So the DA is disqualified and that means Trump has no defence?

I don't understand.

Mike Roman, Trump ally and co-defendant, brought forth the allegations about the DA. Her personal life has nothing to do with the case, other than to characterize her as unqualified. Per Georgia law the appearance of impropriety is not disqualifying.

I agree.  There is little connection to the border criminals coming over and this incident.  The man grew up in Texas as is American and I am.  "When I said that the criminals coming in are far worse than the criminals we have in our country, that statement was constantly refuted by Democrats and the Fake News Media, but it turned out to be true. " is just his usual lies and fear based rhetoric.  Rinse, blame, lie and repeat.

Some republican congressperson on Fox News yesterday was saying "now is not the time for politics" referring to this incident and how congress needs to push through Trumps appointees quickly.  Probably given that the FBI head is resigning instead of being fired it might be a good idea to have a new FBI Director quickly so I guess that's his point.

"It's time for Democrats to put the safety and security of the American people ahead of their Trump Derangement Syndrome.”  Seems to the right's sentiment right now.  As if wanting qualified, ethical and competent people is "Trump Derangement Syndrome".

The president elect has the sads because flags will still be at half-staff at the inauguration to honor President Carter.

Quote

The Democrats are all "giddy" about our magnificent American Flag potentially being at "half mast" during my Inauguration. They think it's so great, and are so happy about it because, in actuality, they don't love our Country, they only think about themselves. Look at what they've done to our once GREAT America over the past four years - It's a total mess! In any event, because of the death of President Jimmy Carter, the Flag may, for the first time ever during an Inauguration of a future President, be at half mast. Nobody wants to see this, and no American can be happy about it. Let's see how it plays out. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!
