I confess to back pedaling into Trump territory when I wanted to leave discussions about him in the garbage can. My thread on the read-only break room site has 9,600 replies so I thought I'd bring up a new one.
He's not going away.
Haberman's book is out based on interviews. I won't read it, but the excerpts are interesting. Especially what he says about McConnell, a description that's against the Terms of Service here, but I actually don't disagree with. LOL
Quote“At one point, Trump made a candid admission that was as jarring as it was ultimately unsurprising. ‘The question I get asked more than any other question: “If you had it to do again, would you have done it?”’Trump said of running for president. ‘The answer is, yeah, I think so. Because here’s the way I look at it. I have so many rich friends and nobody knows who they are.’ … Reflecting on the meaning of having been president of the United States, his first impulse was not to mention public service, or what he felt he’d accomplished, only that it appeared to be a vehicle for fame, and that many experiences were only worth having if someone else envied them.”

Another court filing shot down. I wonder if Trump is at all concerned about his attorney's combined inability to win anything on his behalf, to date.
Former President Donald J. Trump indicted on FOUR COUNTS of election interference in the 2020 Presidential Election in which he lost-- and knew he lost. spreading lies that he had won for over 2 months post the election leading to the January 6th, 2021 assault on the Capital.
The indictment also includes mention of six unnamed and unindicted co-conspirators: 4 attorneys, 1 Justice Department official, and a political consultant.
Per Special Counsel Jack Smith, your invited to read the indictment here.
Trump summoned to appear in court on Thursday 8/3/23 in Washington, DC.
Off to read the indictment.
QuoteThe indictment of former President Donald J. Trump mentions — but does not identify by name — six co-conspirators who prosecutors say worked with him in seeking to overturn the 2020 election.
It is not clear why the office of the special counsel, Jack Smith, decided to seek only Mr. Trump's indictment for now, though it is possible that some of the co-conspirators could still face charges in the weeks ahead.
Here is how the indictment describes those conspirators. The identities of the co-conspirators could not immediately be determined, but the descriptions of them appear to match up with a number of people who were central to the investigation into election tampering conducted by prosecutors working for Mr. Smith.

Co-consiprator 1: Rudy Giuliani " attorney who was willing to spread knowingly false claims and pursue strategies that the Defendant's 2020 re-election campaign attorneys would not."

Co-conspirator 3: Sidney Powell "an attorney whose unfounded claims of election fraud the Defendant privately acknowledged to others sounded "crazy." "Nonetheless, the Defendant embraced and publicly amplified Co-Conspirator 3's disinformation,"
Co-conspirator 4: Jeffrey Clark "a Justice Department official who worked on civil matters and who, with the Defendant, attempted to use the Justice Department to open sham election crime investigations and influence state legislatures with knowingly false claims of election fraud.”

The indictment quotes that co-conspirator as saying something about the crazy $#/× flowing from the mothership. I feel like I remember someone like Bannon saying that, at the time.

Barr has spoken;
QuoteBarr, who served under the Trump administration, said initially he was not sure if Trump believed he lost the election but has "come to believe he knew well that he lost the election.”
This will be a fascinating trial.

TikTok, on the other hand, has been exceptionally entertaining lately. There's a video there with a line that makes me think of Jack Smith.
"You don't want to go to war with a soldier."
"IF YOU GO AFTER ME, I'M COMING AFTER YOU!"
QuoteU.S. prosecutors flagged a threatening social media post from Donald Trump in a late-night court filing on Friday, arguing that it suggests he might intimidate witnesses by improperly disclosing confidential evidence received from the government.
On his Truth Social site, the former president wrote, "IF YOU GO AFTER ME, I'M COMING AFTER YOU!" on Friday afternoon, a day after he pleaded not guilty to charges that he orchestrated a criminal conspiracy to try to reverse his 2020 election loss to Democrat Joe Biden.
How can anyone think that this fellow should be anywhere near the presidency. It's like he has no common sense and no self control.

Usually when charges or impending charges are happening the person says "I'm innocent of all charges, and I look forward to my day in court to prove it". But instead Trump is going after the department, convincing people of fraud, further eroding established long-held democratic process. I'm no alarmist but it does concern me that people want to hand the country over to a man that touts election fraud and doesn't believe in Democracy.
