Why Jahi's Mother doesn't think she is dead:
Why Jahi McMath's Mom Is Sure Her Daughter Isn't Brain Dead - ABC News
It's hard for me to wrap my head around how a family (especially that one) could keep Jahi going as long as she has. I suppose that is, in part, to the girl's relatively healthy 13 year old body and it's resiliency. But still. I've yet to encounter everything lol so what folks here have said about NJ state not paying for nursing care, I have to agree with the logic of it and still have my head spinning on why that kid is still going over a year later.Don't overlook how many people out there are calling this a 'miracle' :) If we step out of our personal perspectives for a moment, recognizing that things can indeed be seen differently than we see them, that Jahi is still going is miraculous indeed.
Many people have mentioned it, but do remember that there was a young man who was diagnosed as brain dead at the age of 4. His parents fought removal of life support and won. His heart gave out 20 years later. Autopsy showed his brain was a calcified little lump of nothing. Yet his body had survived decades on life support. Jahi could theoretically go on as she is now for many years to come.
Nj is VERY unique when it comes to funding things like Pdn.They are more generous than other states as far as funding goes.
However,i do not think at this time she gets Medicaid.
In this state, many facilities will not discharge a medically fragile child UNLESS he or she has Pdn set up.
The reason?
Caregiver fatigue.
THat would all make sense if she were alive, but she is dead! Even NJ isn't going to pay to keep a corpse on a vent!

I wonder - did he grow, go through puberty?

Scant growth and initial puberty changes but not significant. There is a link to the case study earlier in this thread
I work as a private duty CNA occasionally. This kind of ridiculousness is not worth the paycheck. I'd refuse. Maybe if people just started refusing to work this case....
I doubt very seriously that there are any nurses seeing the dead girl. It goes against everything we train for and believe in. Not sure where smartnurse gets her information, but I'd bet my next check it is misinformation.
