The Story of Jahi Continues

I guess I'm the odd man out in thinking that yes, raising an obese child does make you a bad parent. Having been on WIC, I know how hard they push healthy eating and you get vouchers for fruits and veggies, so being poor on government aid is no excuse. If they were.

If they weren't, there is even less excuse, because if you can afford healthy food, you're obligated to provide it.

We've got teenagers with HTN, type 2 diabetes, and heart disease. That's inexcusable.

I was lurking around a facebook page and a woman who claimed to be Nails cousin got on there screaming racist remarks about all white people. It was so disgusting! A nurse who happens to be black posted that the cousin was the racist and that Jahi was dead. This person responded with "dead? Like you will be if I can find out where you are"

Nice.

I work with a CNA who has twins. They are 6 years old. They have hypertension and the pediatrician told her they need to lose weight. They are both morbidly obese. Hypertension caused by obesity in kindergartners is a sign of bad parenting. This woman changed Drs rather than cutting out cookies.

I feel for her other children and for the nurses who had to take care of a dead child every day for almost a month at cho and who knows how long at wherever they moved her to before taking her home.

Jahi is still being taken care of by nurses 24/7....Private Duty Nurses who work for an agency.

I don't believe that is true. There is no insurance for dead people. I think that its another of the mother's lies. We will know for sure when all this gets to court, but I really don't believe that anyone but family is caring for the body.

And you also are entitled to your opinion, it seems that there are people who agree with both of us!

I say that because of the empathy I feel for her other children and for the nurses who had to take care of a dead child every day for almost a month at cho and who knows how long at wherever they moved her to before taking her home. I fully believe what I said and my heart goes out to all those people victimized by that woman and her family.

You are right, there definitely is a ton of concern to be had for Jahi's sibs, and I believe you when you say your heart goes out to all the people caught up in this mess :)

As a nurse, I dunno if I feel 'sorry' for the nurses taking care of Jahi NOW, but I feel very sorry for the ones who had to cope with her family before all this mess. We've all had experiences with 'those kinds of families'. You never forget them when you wish you could.

The nurses caring for Jahi now, I'll bet, are MUCH more plagued by her mother and step father than caring for that poor child's body, whether she's still in there or not :( . I've been doing private duty for three months now, first time at it, and I was quite apprehensive knowing that I'd be reckoning with families on THEIR turf, and if the family is difficult, what hell! I'm so far extremely fortunate, and am grateful every minute for it.

I don't see how Jahi could even be . . . well, alive (as it were) if she weren't being cared for by nursing staff and overseen by a doctor.

I think in NJ she isn't considered 'dead', and has the full range of services just like anyone else. No doubt the state of NJ is funding 24 hour nursing care.

And even WITH excellent private duty nursing care, I am surprised Jahi is still . . . alive, as it were, being that she is in NJ and all :p

Not exactly. NJ mandates that you declare your objection to brain death before the exam and declaration not after you run there with a body declared dead in CA. Mom knows this hence the circus to get her death certificate revoked in CA so she can get SSI & Medicaid benefits. NJ is most definitely not funding 24 hour nursing care, her mother has tried in court twice. This was confirmed in a NJ article but I cannot find the link now; plus the mother admitted the child cannot qualify for SSI or Medicaid with a death certificate issued in CA.

Death certificates follow you across state lines. She is most definitely considered dead in NJ.

Jahi was admitted to SPUH by Dr. Fellus (part of IBRF) who has since had his medical license revoked, and she was discharged to home care concurrently/subsequently.

Current rumor is that either IBRF and/or Schiavo foundation are funding nursing care & family support as a part of their "foundation" mission.

All we have are family reports. Grandma declaring she's not vent dependent or trach on FB. Bizarre medical reports so far off the mainstream its a wonder the court even considered them for a nanosecond. All the reports were refuted point by point by the court appointed expert.

This poor child's soul needs to be laid to rest. While somatic support will delay the effects of brain death on the body, it won't be in perpetuity.

The saddest part is the memory of this beautiful girl with the bright smile has been tarnished forever. Her siblings have been scarred for life by these experiences. No child should have to watch their sister like this, stuck in an earthly limbo.

I think her soul is long gone. Which just makes this all the more ghoulish.

IBRF isn't going to step in to pay for anything unless they get paid. They put up a crowd funding site wanting $100K and a few days ago it still only had $100.00 in it. Other families on FB that have used them say that they always want the money up front. No clue what Shiavo is kicking in if anything. They got real quiet awhile ago and may have pulled back funding.

I never saw granny say she isn't vent dependent, but I'm sure she is. Dolan's last press release talked about Nails being afraid that the storms in NJ had her worried because if the electricity went out Jahi would "die" and he cited that as a reason for getting her back to CA. that was only a month or so ago. There is no possible way that she isn't on a vent 24/7.

A family that is trained on vent care and feeding tube can keep a person alive (or in this case animated) without the help of medical professionals. I worked in rehab as a second job for awhile and we sent patients home without nursing services on vents, but those people were very much alive and ambulatory.

I don't think any nurse is trained on long term corpse care, I would be surprised if there is any help at all. Vent and nutrition supplies, diapers and all of that may be paid for by Shiavo, but I'm pretty sure that there is no one paying for her care.

I can guarantee NJ Medicaid isn't paying for her care like the other poster stated! Perhaps IBRF/Dolan/Schiavo/hairdresser secured funds for the home equipment and initial care/parent education. The articles regarding eviction stated there are nurses in the home. Knowing bill rates on the east coast doubt GFM was sufficient. Medicaid requires facility care for anyone who has a need for >16hrs a day long term it's cheaper than pdn.
