The Mockery of Nursing

Nurses Relations

Published

Just a bit ago the top three threads involved:

1.I have a DWI. Can I be a nurse?

2.I am stupid. Can I be a nurse?

3.If it takes me five times to pass NCLEX, Can I be nurse.

Not much left to add. Says it all.

So tell me which specialty in nursing requires the least math.... Because I can't be bothered to learn basic math that I should have learned before I graduated elementary school.

longer than it usually takes! how many peoples tongues were bleeding all night from biting them too hard? someone had to break the ice eventually!
Some days it makes me chuckle. Some days it makes me disgusted. Some days I think I just need to step away from allnurses.

Thank you for starting this thread. I too am tired of reading dumb questions on this site iam proud to be a nurse. Sometimes the questions are so stupid that I think people are making them up until I realize they are serious. If you keep getting fired from every job-then its probably you. If you failed the nclex 5 times-then your school sucks. If you are scared of touching people-then nursing isn't for you. Nurses don't eat their young they may nibble from time to time but they are trying to make you a better nurse. The new grads need to. Keep their mouth shut and eyes open you might learn something from those mean old nurses

Interesting enough, maybe these people are terribly sincere and wish to better themselves. Do not be so quick to judge, when you have faults as well. My mother was terribly dyslexic, and she got her baccalaureate in dental hygiene all while taking care of me as a single parent, and graduated at the top of her class! Now she is a great dental hygienist. She's part of my inspiration to graduate from college.

People who get DUIs made a mistake. Some learn from their mistake and change.

Some people are dumb, but that doesn't mean they can't get smarter.

So someone failed a lot. Righteous is the man or woman who falls 7 times and gets back up again.

I just saw the thread "I am too stupid to be nurse?" Here's the problem...If we say "yes, you are" then we are mean and uncaring. If we say "no, anyone can be a nurse" that really undermines the image of nurses as educated professionals. And here it is on the internet for everyone to see...

My favorite: I wanna be a CRNA, but I stink at chemistry and math. I don't see why I need to be a nurse first, since all I want to do is put people to sleep. I don't see why I need to waste time with nursing school.

Close second: My patient's ABG was 6.9 and everyone yelled at me when I didn't call the doctor and the patient coded, they're all just a big bunch of haters that are jealous of me because I'm young/thin/beautiful and smarter than they are.

I'm going to be a RN so all the LPNS and CNAs can handle the poop and vomit, I want to supervise from the nursing station (no, wait, that was at work...)

Thats because after awhile, you will notice that there is a certain algorithm for ridiculous posts. It starts off with the OP saying some story about how they went through school with a 4.0 with 13 kids, 7 jobs, no husband/wife while trying to destroy the one ring. Then they get on here and post stupid questions and this is where the split occurs. Either you get people to come in and coddle the person and blow rainbows up their skirt, or you get the people like me and most in this thread that get tired of these stupid questions and inject some light into the thread.

This is where the next split occurs. Either you get the young newbies stating how mean and crusty the old nurses are. Or you get the old crusty bats that come in and say that the newbies have it easy/are in for a shock.

Then it goes back and forth rinse and repeat until a Mod gets in a shuts it down because someone gets their butt hurt. Its fun to sit back and watch.

After reading that, and being a newbie myself, I still don't feel like I quite fit into one of those categories. I would therefore like to petition to be a crusty old newbie. And if anyone would like to blow some rainbows, please be advised that you will be doing it up my robe (which has seen far better days) instead of my skirt.

Also, I can sympathize with both sides, so I will be content to straddle the fence. Please refrain from throwing things to knock me off of it.

I've really noticed that things seem to have gone south over the last couple months. There used to be so many postings about how to be a better supervisor, advocate, critical thinker, etc. There was so much good advice given in response to these posts and over the years I have learned a lot from this site and it used to really make me think. Now it seems like it's the same questions over and over and no one listens to anything they don't want to hear.

If we cannot learn from each other and learn to take constructive criticism we cannot grow as nurses. It is not eating our young, it is not being mean, it is reality. And in all honesty, if people cannot figure some of this stuff out by themselves, they probably should not be nurses:eek: There! I said it!

Where are the real questions? This happened with my patient and I don't understand why? How do I deal with this situation while still acting in the best interest of my patient? What is the rationale behind giving this medication for this condition? How do you deal with this situation, what could I do better? These are the questions/posts that are helpful to everyone and that we love to help out with.

I feel like ever since the "remodel" I haven't seen any of these. Maybe it's just a coincidence or maybe it brought all the whiners out of the woodwork....who knows...but it's driving me nuts!:banghead:

I appreciate all the advice I have read throughout the years, even the stuff that was not so nice, at least it was real! So thank you to all you crusty old bats!

Just one request....could you please refrain from flying over my head in the future....as wise as you may be, I do not appreciate the dandruff shower I get :bowingpur

In Canada you may only attempt to write the CRNE 3 times. If you don't pass it, yeah...

Yup. I've explained that titbit more a few times over the years to our brethern south of the 49th. And now we have whinners petitioning for a FOURTH attempt! Get real. It's worked fine for decades, why are you so special? I mean I passed my CPNRE first attempt with my husband in a warzone, my father dying just beforehand, and I lived 1000km from my nearest relative with no family support for my kids. Yup, I'm a tough old bat.

I'm just glad the "so retrogression is mean, it's not letting me go to the land of paradise for xy years, so I'm gonna try Canada for a couple of years. I'm a USRN and they should be grateful to have me. I've written my NCLEX and Canada should just let me in RIGHT NOW. Once retrogression is over, I'm going to the States to live with my Auntie as soon as possible".
