Just a bit ago the top three threads involved:
1.I have a DWI. Can I be a nurse?
2.I am stupid. Can I be a nurse?
3.If it takes me five times to pass NCLEX, Can I be nurse.
Not much left to add. Says it all.
I just registered for this site, and this is one of the first threads that I have read. It is quite entertaining, despite being steeped in broad generalizations about both "new" (per this thread, interpreted as “stupid”) and "experienced" (per this thread, interpreted as “mean and old”) nurses. The sense of community is underwhelming, but the quality of humor is above par. I am waiting for both sides to square off for a battle royale. “Nursarmageddon 2012” would certainly pull in the Pay-Per-View consumers. Which side do I join? I am able to spell and read, I do not have a DWI, I am a hopeful new nursing student pursuing a second career, with a reasonable degree of life experience, but will be an “old new” nurse upon graduation. Perhaps I should just referee?
Thats because after awhile, you will notice that there is a certain algorithm for ridiculous posts. It starts off with the OP saying some story about how they went through school with a 4.0 with 13 kids, 7 jobs, no husband/wife while trying to destroy the one ring. Then they get on here and post stupid questions and this is where the split occurs. Either you get people to come in and coddle the person and blow rainbows up their skirt, or you get the people like me and most in this thread that get tired of these stupid questions and inject some light into the thread.
This is where the next split occurs. Either you get the young newbies stating how mean and crusty the old nurses are. Or you get the old crusty bats that come in and say that the newbies have it easy/are in for a shock.
Then it goes back and forth rinse and repeat until a Mod gets in a shuts it down because someone gets their butt hurt. Its fun to sit back and watch.

Understood. My solemn oath as a new member: never to brag, never to seek coddling, and never to post a question that I could not answer on my own after first pursuing diligent and thorough investigation of the topic. Now, I shall sit back and watch the rest of this thread unfold in silence (although, I still think we could pull in some revenue through Pay-Per-View).
Interesting enough, maybe these people are terribly sincere and wish to better themselves. Do not be so quick to judge, when you have faults as well. My mother was terribly dyslexic, and she got her baccalaureate in dental hygiene all while taking care of me as a single parent, and graduated at the top of her class! Now she is a great dental hygienist. She's part of my inspiration to graduate from college.
People who get DUIs made a mistake. Some learn from their mistake and change.
Some people are dumb, but that doesn't mean they can't get smarter.
So someone failed a lot. Righteous is the man or woman who falls 7 times and gets back up again.
Welcome Aboard! (tries to salute but slips and falls on her crusty bat butt :/ You will find it all here. Threads like this invariably get the largest audience and make the strongest impression. I can tell you of many times we've coached each other through a death, provided a ton of "attagirl/boys" when someone acheives a goal and lots of ((hugs)) that I suspect drive the menfolk insane. The wisecracks are not directed at any particular person. Although if someone sees themselves in one of those wisecracks and does a course correction all the better. That will likely spare them a more painful wake-up call further down the line.I just registered for this site, and this is one of the first threads that I have read. I don't normally post in the student section or the pre-nurses because I realize that's their "house" and have no problem with them having some fun at my expense. Have at it. I know they probably don't act that kind of stuff out in the real world, just as we are multi-faceted people, too. It's a mistake to assume our demeanor in the workplace is the same as it is here. Heck I can poke fun and bestow hearts and flowers to the same person on a different thread, it's how we do. Apologizing for the verbosity. :)
