Calling In Sick: Dealing With Mental Illness At Work, Part 3
Thank you Vivalasviejas for these wonderful posts! They are very insightful to nurses who are dealing with MI and coworkers we may In counter. I worked with a wonderful nurse who dealt with bipolar, she would take medical leave frequently. Finally after this last medical leave she never came back. It makes me sad cause she has been at this facility for over 10 years and she is the sweetest and most hard working person to be around. After reading some of your posts and articles I now understand that she didn't come back probably because of her MI.

Are we tyrants?
I work with adults but I am very territorial over my pts too. I want to know who you are and what you are doing. Iam not rude or anything and iam more then willing to help or answer their questions. If my baby was in NICU I would want a awesome nurse like Bortaz advocating and taking care of my baby. :)

Dobhoff Tube Insertion
Every place I've worked RN can insert and X-ray done for placement. I don't see the difference between ngt and dobhoff. Ones smaller and both going to the same place

Picc Line Question
I agree with munoRN. 10mls of waste for each lab draw is too much. Picc lines are in the SVC and the blood flow is extremely fast.

Saying no when work calls
I don't answer. My family is # 1 in my life not my job. I love my job but its only part of my life so if its my day off I have no problem not coming in. You could bust your ass working for hospitals working nonstop and they will let you. Get a workers comp injury and see how fast they turn their backs.

Coreg med and no heart rate parameters?
Iam sorry this happen too you. Its hard to believe that you were fired for just one incident. The magical number 60 comes from what is a normal heart rate anything less then 60 is considered Bradycardia.

Was this a fair consequence?
Too ask if the consequence is fair, I don't think you have a choice in the consequence only the accountability. Rule #1. TRUST NOBODY!
